Transcript of NATURE & ENVIRONMENT : ANIMALS

SOLUTIONS
Spread awareness about animal extinction among friends and family
We should only take what we need and not over use
Buy cruelty-free animal products
Support organizations e.g World Wildlife Fund
Respect the environment
NATURE & ENVIRONMENT
-Exactly what do we mean by nature?
CAUSE
In recent years, many animals are increasingly getting endangered and extinct.
One of the main reasons are because of Humans.
Humans cause pollution & habitat loss.
Humans sacrifice the environment to meet their own greed
HABITAT LOSS
The world's many forest, lakes, swamps are disappearing as they are harvested for human consumption
Many species are increasingly losing their habitat
They do not have places to survive, find food and reproduce
NATURE & ENVIRONMENT : ANIMALS
-The material world, especially as surrounding humankind and existing independently of human activities
-What do we mean by environment?
-The air, water, minerals, organisms, and all other factors surrounding and affecting a given organism at any time
Before & After Deforestation
POLLUTION
Human activity has been releasing harmful chemicals and materials into the environment
Many animals are unable to adapt to these changes and therefore die.

EFFECTS
Far reaching and long lasting effect on biodiversity
Damage ecosystem
Disrupts the food chain
Affects surrounding environment
CASE STUDY: GRAY WOLF
GRAY WOLF
Wolves kept other animals' populations from growing exponentially
Hunted elk, deer and moose and also killed smaller animals such as coyotes, raccoons and beavers
However, a mass extermination effort in the US killed half of the wolf population in the early 20th century
EFFECT
Prey populations grew larger
Exploding elk population wiped out food for the songbirds to feed on, threatening their survival
Due to the decrease in song birds, the number of insects like mosquitoes increased
CASE STUDY: FRESHWATER MUSSELS
FRESHWATER MUSSELS
Plays an important role in the aquatic ecosystem
Many wildlife eat mussels
Mussels filter water for food and thus are a purification system
Mussel beds can act as hard "cobble" at the bottom of lakes which supports other species of fish, worms and insects
However, most of them are threatened due to over harvesting for their pearls
EFFECTS
Source of food gone for the animals which can lead to a drastic decrease in animal population
Lead to algae infection in lakes and streams
Dirty water renders the area to be uninhabitable and can lead to diseases in other creatures
