6.01Project Milestone

In The United States littering is punishable with a more than $500 fine, community service, or both, as set out by state statutes and city ordinances. All 50 states have anti-litter laws. Most highways and national parks are punishable with $1,000 fine or 1 year in prison when they had serious damages.
In communities, people create organizations to clean up their neighborhoods. Also many schools give community service hours to student to help with littering also and much more. There are also highways that can be adopted by neighborhoods and individuals
Consumer Saving
Business Firms
Business firms most likely take time to hire custodians to clean up firm areas. The littering found in their vicinity can truly break a business because people aren't attracted to places that don't look sanitary. Also firms can put investments in other businesses that focus on cleaning the world.
Factors of Production
Rest of the World
A lot of our world's littering ends up in the ocean. Many countries are trying to create biodegradable trash to help with the trash moving around the world. Tourism is also higher in areas that are appealing to to the eye so cities take time to clean more.

1.Take the issue you have chosen and explain how it affects your community.
In most of my life, I've lived in different metropolitan cities, and I have noticed that littering has been a tremendous issue. It is not only unattractive, but it ruins the environment. I live by a beach so it can lead to water pollution. Also, the animals in the wildlife can be negatively affected. People do not want to live in a displeasing area because it doesn't look nice.
Guiding Questions
2.What do members of your family and community say about the issue?
My mom is the the reason I feel so strongly about a clean earth. Littering is one of her pet-peeves. Also, I am in a club in my school called Sister 2 Sister who takes out the time to choose and area to clean as community service whether it be a park, a road, or a beach in the area. We all appreciate where we live and want to take care of it. Unfortunately not everyone in my community takes it as serious.
1.How does this issue affect households and local residents?
A neighborhood, condominium, apartment etc. can lose sales based on littering on the property. People can move out and others may not even come in. There are even some major extents where people can become ill with the littering problems.
2.How does this issue affect area businesses?
Littering devalues a business, and it is similar to the issues in households. Many people wont be attracted to a business that doesn't have the time or money to "tidy up".
3.How does this issue affect our government at the local, state, and national levels?
Fines are created on the state and national level to control the littering on roadways. This is because they have to enforce the non-litter laws created. On the local level, I think that the local police will have to do more to enforce rules on littering.
4.How does this issue affect the rest of the world?
Littering spreads. Its affect on the environment is considered pollution and that is a global issue that takes time to deal with. The most talked about form of littering in my area is around the ocean and litter can spread anywhere through any body of water.
5.How does the issue affect resources, goods and services, and finances?
The U.S has a huge agriculture industry, and the pollution from littering can ruin the earth and the goods created. This lack in edible goods can raise the prices of what is left and lead to inflation. Also, that pollution can lead to sickness down the line for workers taking them away from their job.
