Current Trends in The lodging Industry
Lodging (or a holiday accommodation) is a type of residential accommodation. People who travel and stay away from home for more than a day need lodging for sleep, rest, safety, shelter from cold temperatures or rain, storage of luggage and access to common household functions.
Lodgings may be self-catering, in which case no food is provided, but cooking facilities are available.
Lodging is done in a hotel, motel, hostel or hostal, a private home (commercial, i.e. a bed and breakfast, a guest house, a vacation rental, or non-commercially, with members of hospitality services or in the home of friends), in a tent, caravan/camper (often on a campsite).
Lodging is an exceptionally cyclical
industry. Demand trails both consumer
and business spending while supply,
which is dependent on private investment
spending, lags behind, reinforcing
cyclicality. The business is mature, though
still fragmented, and competition is
intense. There is limited product
innovation. And well-defined offerings
and well-established brands make for
high barriers to entry.

Singapore Airlines unveils next-generation cabins
Singapore Airlines on Thursday launched its next generation of cabin products, set to be the new industry benchmark for premium air travel
Customers traveling on select flights between Singapore and London will be the first to experience the new cabin products from September, in First, Business and Economy classes. The new seats and KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system will be progressively rolled out to other routes as additional new aircraft enter service.
Singapore Airlines is investing nearly US$150 million to introduce the new products on an initial eight Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The investment program will be extended as the new products are introduced on Airbus A350 aircraft scheduled for delivery in the years ahead.
To allow travelers to experience a journey like no other, the designs of the new First Class, Business Class, and Economy class show special attention to ergonomics, comfort, and convenience, as well as to customers’ interests and lifestyles. Wah said the goal was to make ‘A Great Way to Fly’ even better, and “ we are confident that we have delivered,” he said.

Software delivered as a service, rather than held on premise is already a mainstream technology topic and despite being a new concept in the hospitality sector, it is already big news. At Infor, I would estimate around 85% of the queries we see from hospitality companies and hotels include a serious look at cloud computing.
Mobile is the new face of computing as devices such as tablets and smartphones revolutionise the way we interact with technology. Hospitality is no exception to this revolution, in some cases leading the way.
Hotel Technology Trends Revolutionising the Industry
Social media has had a profound impact upon the hospitality industry. TripAdvisor has become one of the main sources of information for people researching holidays, hotels and leisure facilities. Meanwhile, newer social tools like Facebook or Twitter are quickly becoming just as influential. For any hotel to not at least monitor social media is tantamount to willingly flying blind.

Set on the scrubby land of Providenciales's Northwest Point Marine National Park, this seven-year-old resort is "a dream come true." Gazebos made of Indonesian woods are clustered around the central reflecting pool, while resort buildings have shingle roofs. Airy pavilions feature terrazzo floors with teak inlay and have three glass walls that slide open onto terraces with daybeds and sunken dining areas—"they bring a touch of modernity to the islands." The resort's Nature Discovery Center employs a full-time naturalist. Asian and Mediterranean dishes are on the menu at the main restaurant; the Beach Club does grilled fare.

One of Cape Town's most luxurious hotels has given itself a refreshing makeover

Cape Grace
The Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel & Thalasso, in Cascais, Portugal, is the third-best hotel in the world according to the millions of tourists who use the world’s largest travel site, TripAdvisor® – and all after just its first full year of operation.

Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel & Thalasso
Cascais, Portugal

The word Onyria comes from the Greek language and means “Dream” , with this in mind, our designers have gone to great lengths to create a dream stay for our guests.
One of the first hotels developed on the waterfront, the hotel has a prime position slightly away from the more touristy operations. In its old incarnation it was a luxurious but slightly staid hotel that had little to link to the history or its location on Cape Town’s waterfront. The latest refurbishment has drawn heavily on the history of the Cape with artefacts and images alike. Design exhibits a sense of humour as well as a sense of style and the overall result is contemporary and very comfortable, complimented of course by the service for which this leading Cape Town property is known.
