Transcript of Nancy Drew

Nancy Drew Type of Detective/Style Nancy Drew is an amateur detective. She either goes looking for mysteries or ends up running into them. Nancy is smart, bold and independent, she takes a lot of risks like breaking and entering, and keeping stolen property, but she is also well mannered and gentle. She has more of an upper class lifestyle. The character Nancy Drew was created by Edward Stratemeyer after the series about The Hardy Boys, in 1927, became really popular. Edward believed that a woman's place belonged in the home, but he wanted to spark some more interest with young woman. That's when he decided to create a strong, independent female heroine. Edward died the same year that he came up with Nancy Drew, and the stories were continued by his daughters. Background Where & When TV/Movies/Novels Accomplices Work Cited http://www.nancydrewsleuth.com/nd101.html Nancy drew was a 16 year old high school graduate in the earlier books, and was later aged to 18. Earlier in the books her mother passed away when she was 10, but the age was changed to 3 to emphasize her being independent and capable of handling herself. She lives with her father and housekeeper. Her father is a famous mystery case attorney. Nancy Drew is a number of mystery books, two television shows, 6 movies, and many computer games. There has been a number of authors, and a number of series. Most of the books have been under the author Carolyn Keene. The books were rewritten to remove racism and stereotypes. They were also made shorter and the stories got to the point faster to keep peoples interest. The Hardy Boys sometimes join Nancy Drew when she is solving mysteries in her books, computer games and TV shows. In the earlier versions Nancy Drew had A friend named Helen Corning. Later on in the stories she was replaced by Bess Marvin, George Fayne, (cousins) and her boyfriend Ned Nickerson who often help or accompany her. Nancy Drew came out in the 1930s, and since then has been revised to modernized the stories and the characters. She lives in a town called River Heights. Throughout her stories she travels all around the states. Since her father was a mystery case attorney she would often try and help out with the cases that he was given. Many of her mysteries took her to new locations. http://www.nancydrewsleuth.com/sleuthing101.html One of Nancy Drew's nemesis is Deirdre Shannon, who lives in Nancy's hometown. The two knew each other since public school and Deirdre's hate for Nancy Drew is based off of jealousy because Nancy was always more popular than her and a better detective than her. http://nancydrew.wikia.com/wiki/Deirdre_Shannon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Drew#Character Types of crimes Nemesis Nancy Drew solves crimes that are more child friendly. She gets into things that a high school student could run into. Most of the crimes she solves are robbery's missing people and haunted ghost mysteries. Not so much serial killers or terrorists.
