While American presidential debates, at their foundation, are meant to retain and project the values of high culture by both informing and persuading the voters using logic and ethics, contemporary debates, more specifically the second 2012 debate between President Obama and Governor Romney, have relegated to a "low culture" status as they repeatedly employ mundane and cliche rhetorical techniques, settle for responses that are sloppy and just get by, employ elementary word choice, and consistently suggest quick-fix solutions in regards to policy.
Prescription for High Culture Status
In order for presidential debates to ascend to high culture status, they must adopt more dialectic elements.

-Both President Obama and Governor Romney employ unoriginal and tired rhetorical tactics.

Inability to Appreciate Fine Art
- Rather than providing a through response to questions asked, both candidates were quick to attack each other and skirt around the answers.

Dulling of Cultural Taste buds

Settling for Sloppy
Work that Just Gets By
Elementary Word Choice
-The candidates' diction does not exceed the vocabulary expected of an average junior high school student.
