By Sebastian, Eric, Jakob and Alex Appalachian Region Placement/Location Maritimes (Eastern Canada). Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and and eastern parts of Quebec Physical Characteristics Mountains, plateaus, and hills. Very old mountains, older than the Rocky Mountains. The biggest Islands in the region are Newfoundland, P.E.I, and Cape Breton Island. Major Communities in the Region St. John's Rocks Sedimentary Volcanic Metamorphic Igneous Economic Activity Fishing, tourism, and oil are the main industries. They bring in the most money to the region. Fishing in the Appalachians is a multi-million dollar industry, usually worth 954 million dollars, tourism is 3.4 billion dollars. Major Water Bodies Gulf of St Lawrence, Atlantic Ocean, Cabot Strait. Glacier Influence The glacial influence on the Appalachians depends on the ocean winds, and usually makes the region frosted and foggy. Halifax Fredericton Moncton Sydney St. John Charlottetown Other Interesting Facts You can go see a St. John's Ice Caps game. You can visit George Street in St. John's. They have the highest amount of bars and pubs per square foot in all of North America. You can go sea fishing, brook fishing, whale watching, sea kayaking, hunting,and site seeing. The End The inventor of the ice cream cone was from the Appalachian region. The Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the whole world
