Goal
The purpose of this project is to create the lightest, strongest Popsicle bridge that can hold ourselves
Design Process
The activities of the popsicle stick bridge reflect the steps of the Design Process by there being an input, process, output and an evaluation.
Roles
Although we did not use roles that often, we still used roles to some extent. For example, we would show the Quality Assurance Manager if the bridge was clean and precise. We would communicate with the Designer on how the bridge should be made (What type of truss, dimensions etc.). Fabrication Manager and Fabricator collected the materials, checked if our joints were glued properly and made sure our workplace was neat and tidy.
What I Learned

I learned during this project is that even though you have carefully planned everything out, there will still be errors arising. For example, my partner and I had problems putting on the tie members. Even though we cut it perfectly so that it could fit on the bridge, it still did not stay in place unless we added a lot of glue to reinforce it.
But it is good that we made this mistake because it was a learning experience for all of us.
Conclusion
Overall, I think my bridge turned out just how I had planned it. I think this because it is strong, light and the trusses are aligned. Next time, I can improve my bridge by cleaning the dried glue from the popsicle sticks and sanding down uneven parts.
Challenging Aspect
The most challenging aspect for this project was creating the tie members for the bridge. This was difficult in the sense that we had to create our own and could not use the CNC Mill. I overcame this problem by finding materials that could cut slits perfectly into the Popsicle stick which turned out to be a hacksaw blade. Another problem that arose was when gluing the tie members on, they would not stay on. That was solved by placing all the tie members on the bridge then taking one off at a time and glue them back on.

Input: The input stage is when we learn what we will be solving or completing. In this case, it is to create the lightest and strongest bridge design.

Process: The "process" stage is when we try possible outcomes for the solution, which for us was different truss designs.

Output: Our output resulted in the completion of the popsicle stick bridge.

Evaluate: Then we evaluate our steps and fix little errors on what needs to be done.

We questioned the teacher regarding materials given to build the bridge. Sketched a rough drawing of which bridge we would build. Researched which type of truss bridge will hold the most weight. Recorded today’s work in the daily log.

Design Process Step: Construct We got our assigned materials today and got the necessary materials needed to build the bridge. (120 Popsicle Sticks and Wood Glue) Recorded today’s work in the daily log.

Design Process Step: Construct We started to create the top and bottom stringers today. Firstly, we had to cut the popsicle sticks to our desired length (100 mm). Then we started to glue them and used binder clips to let them dry. Recorded today’s work in the daily log.

Design Process Step: Construct We created the other stringers needed for the other trusses and used binder clips to let them dry. Once they were dry, we started constructing perimeters with the top and bottom stringers and let them dry. Recorded today’s work in the daily log.

Design Process Step: Construct Once the perimeters were made, we added more popsicle sticks to create the trusses. At the end of the period, we created 3 trusses and let them sit to dry. Recorded today’s work in the daily log.

Design Process Step: Construct Today we created tie members to connect the 3 trusses. I used a hacksaw blade and cut 3 slits throughout the whole tie member for the trusses to rest on. After they were made, we glued them on and let them dry again. Recorded today’s work in the daily log.

Daily Log
1: Define Our Goal
Our goal is to create a strong and light popsicle stick truss bridge that can hold ourselves using popsicle sticks, wood glue, and binder clips.

I started investigating online for ideas on popsicle stick bridges. I found many bridges but I knew some were too time consuming, or too huge. Considering how much time I had, I looked for the truss that would be the strongest yet simplest to make and so I settled for the Through Warren Truss.
4. Plan + Design
We looked at the bridge rubric and analyzed the specs required. We then planned and designed our bridge by creating rough sketches of our bridge. In addition, we made an orthographic drawing for the bridge to help visualize it better.
5. Construct
Final : Output And Evaluation
Altogether I think that I’ve done a great job in finishing the bridge. I stood on it, and it held me just fine without it breaking or crumbling. Even though it’s done, I feel that I could make it even stronger if I had added in more time and effort. I think this because I finished the bridge in less than 3 weeks. I am wondering the maximum amount of weight can my bridge hold without breaking.
I think doing the daily log is a good way to reflect your work everyday because sometimes you forget what your real job is. In my opinion, the daily logs keep you on track and keep you motivated on what needs to be done.
