Models of Engagement
Video Conferencing: A Sampling of Options
To utilize video conferencing as an alternative modality for students, a center must have:
308.11.1 a written agreement (cf Standard 302.3) that specifies the supervisor will verify the clinical placement site complies with ACPE Standards.
308.11.2 a plan to ensure access to technology and orientation to the use of the technology for students and the CPE supervisor. Educational seminars interrupted by technological problems may not be counted toward the 100 hour requirement for a unit of CPE.
308.11.3 a process for evaluating the effectiveness of utilizing video conferencing in addressing outcomes and student learning goals.
308.11.4 on site preceptor(s) to communicate with the student's supervisor about the student(s)’ clinical work. The supervisor must communicate with the student(s)” preceptor(s) throughout the unit about the student’s clinical work, work habits, clinical issues related to the student’s learning and investment in the CPE process.
308.11.5 all individual and group supervision done through synchronous learning methods, i.e. video conference. Asynchronous formats, such as discussion forums or other online methods may be used for didactic or reading seminar.
