Demi's Music
"Lovato has a strong voice many levels above the typical teen star and she’s striving to appear grown up."
[Verse 1]
I'm losing myself
Trying to compete
With everyone else
Instead of just being me
Don't know where to turn
I've been stuck in this routine
I need to change my ways
Instead of always being weak

[Chorus:]
I don't wanna be afraid
I wanna wake up feeling beautiful..today
And know that I'm okay
Cause everyone's perfect in unusual ways
So you see, I just wanna believe in me

La la la la la la la la

[Verse 2]
The mirror can lie
Doesn't show you what's inside
And it, it can tell you you're full of life
It's amazing what you can hide
Just by putting on a smile

[Chorus]

I'm quickly finding out
I'm not about to break down
Not today
I guess I always knew
That I had all the strength to make it through

[Chorus:]
Not gonna be afraid
I'm going to wake up feeling beautiful..today
And know that I'm okay
Cause everyone's perfect in unusual ways
So you see, now, now I believe in me

Now I believe in me
Believe in Me
Puttin’ my defenses up
‘Cause I don’t wanna fall in love
If I ever did that
I think I’d have a heart attack

Never put my love out on the line
Never said "Yes" to the right guy
Never had trouble getting what I want
But when it comes to you, I’m never good enough

When I don’t care
I can play ‘em like a Ken doll
Won’t wash my hair
Then make 'em bounce like a basketball

But you make me wanna act like a girl
Paint my nails and wear high heels
Yes, you make me so nervous
That I just can’t hold your hand

{Course:}
You make me glow,
But I cover up
Won’t let it show,
So I’m...

Puttin’ my defenses up
'Cause I don’t wanna fall in love
If I ever did that
I think I’d have a heart attack [3x]

Never break a sweat for the other guys
When you come around, I get paralyzed
And every time I try to be myself
It comes out wrong like a cry for help

It's just not fair
Pain's more trouble than love is worth
I gasp for air
It feels so good, but you know it hurts

But you make me wanna act like a girl
Paint my nails and wear perfume for you
Make me so nervous
That I just can’t hold your hand

Course

The feelings got lost in my lungs
They’re burning, I’d rather be numb
And there’s no one else to blame (no one else)
So scared I take off and i run
I’m flying too close to the sun
And I burst into flames

Course
Heart Attack
Baby, when they look up at the sky
We'll be shooting stars just passing by
You'll be coming home with me tonight
We'll be burning up like neon lights

Be still my heart 'cause it's freaking out, it's freaking out, right now
Shining like stars 'cause we're beautiful, we're beautiful, right now
You're all I see in all these places
You're all I see in all these faces
So let's pretend we're running out of time, of time

{Course:}
Baby, when they look up at the sky
We'll be shooting stars just passing by
You'll be coming home with me tonight
And we'll be burning up like neon lights

Neon lights
Neon lights
Neon lights
Like neon lights, oh
Like neon lights, oh

Be still my heart 'cause it's freaking out, it's freaking out, right now
Shining like stars 'cause we're beautiful, we're beautiful, right now
You're all I see in all these places
You're all I see in all these faces
So let's pretend we're running out of time, of time

Demi got out in January of 2011, while she was in treatment, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. (she has had these problems since she was 11 years old)
After being released, she quit her disney show and focused on recording her third studio album, “Unbroken” which peaked 4 on the Billboard 200.
Nearly eight months after leaving treatment, Lovato released her third album, Unbroken, which debuts at No. 4 on the Billboard albums charts thanks to the success of her lead single "Skyscraper." "I took a long time on this album, and I've been on such a journey over the past year that it just feels awesome to be able to release music that I've worked really hard on," she says, "and now that it's done well [on the chart] it feels even better."

"Don't Forget" is Demi's first album released on September 23rd, 2008. Looking at the cover, I noticed the white background made it look simple. Demi stands in the center with a guitar. Her pose makes me wonder if she wants revenge for something that happened in the past. Maybe went through a rough faze and she doesn't want the people involved to regret it. I also think the bold red and black letters add to the feeling of revenge. This cover makes me wonder what she doesn't want to forget.
Demi named her second album was released on July 21st, 2009 and titled "Here we go Again". The colors are mostly pink and silver with her name written in script. This makes her look like a sweet, innocent girl, especially because of the light pink lipstick she's wearing and the way her hair has been curled. Her pose makes me think she has secrets and knows things that maybe she shouldn't. By the sounds of the title I think she is going through a similar problem or situation she has dealt with in the past.
Demi's Unbroken album gives a more mature look than her last two. The lettering in her name is half bold and half not bold. The makeup she is wearing in black, but the tint in the picture is a lighter colour. I wonder if she is kind of stuck in the middle.
Her expression look determined. She doesn't look directly at the camera, but more off to an angle, which makes me think she's moving forward from the past.
In Demi's 4th album, she uses a more mature picture of herself. It doesn't look like she has any clothing on, and has what looks like dirt all over her skin. In this album cover there is mostly only white and black. Demi's expression makes me feel like she is angry or upset with someone. The photo makes me feel like she wants something. but she's not sure what that is yet.
Lyrics:
About a girl who has self-esteem and in some way, harming
She in someways knows that it's not right but she feels that she can't do anything bout it because it's hard and she's too afraid
The course talks about how she wants to feel beautiful and to stop being afraid. I think she is trying to accept herself for who she is.
Closer too the end of the song she talks about finding the strength to survive and that it's not worth all of the pain.
Everyone is beautiful in their own ways.

Video:
A handfull of teenagers who in the beginning of the video felt alone and the need to self-harm
I see alot of sad teens who's expressions make me think that they feel that they don't belong here and that there is no real reason for them to be here
Some of these teenagers made it past the rough times by the end of the video and overcame the rough times they were going through.
. But some of them didn’t make it to that point. It must have been just too hard for them and without the help they needed, They couldn’t do it by themselves.
The video and song lyrics can relate to a lot of teenagers who may be self-harming or just are alone and don’t feel good enough.
I think the artist was trying to send a message out to all teens that whatever you are going through, there are others going through the same thing too and it’s ok to get help because you don’t deserve to go through it alone.
Lyrics:

She was in a relationship that didn't work out
She doesn't want to feel the pain of falling in love again
there is a guy that makes her feel good but she hides how she really feels
I think she wants to run from the feeling of love because in the long run she thinks it isn't worth it.

Video:

In a large empty building
facial expressions show she truly believes that falling in love isn't worth the pain
Demi is also all in white with a white background in the other half of the video
The white may show her purity and the black gloves she is wearing, the pain she still feels from falling in love before.
She smears black paint all over her white shirt which makes me think the memories of being hurt from past relationship are coming back.
Demi rises out of black paint in the end, maybe to represent her moving away from the pain
This video is very serious, and at no point do you see her with an expression that doesn’t fit the lyrics or how she really feels.
Lyrics:
At a club and notices someone
She see's a sort of spark between them that may or may not last for long
She seens nervous but she doesn't want to miss out on anything
She's going on her first impulse

Video:

In Demi’s music video, it goes back and forth between her at a club and in a pool. While she’s in the pool, there is a more seriousness and mature feeling, but when she’s in the club there’s lots of dancing bright lights.
