TOWARDS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF WIFI IN FRASER PLACE MANILA FP Manila's Internet Now FP Manila offers to guests its broadband internet service via copper wire installed on each unit. It makes use of Cisco's Catalyst 2900 technology, a proprietary technology introduced in the early 2000s which makes use of plain telephone wires to transmit it's payload. This network uses PLDT's iGate leased line with a bandwidth of 6 MBps. Bandwidth managed, identity based on IP Address. Challenges using this technology: 1. Slow internet connection due to:
Heavy traffic
Many connections 2. Hard to manage - IP based monitoring 3. Obsolete hardware 4. Unreliable wiring
Single pair running this technology can allow up to 2MBps bandwidth only
Cabling used for internet is also used for voice/telephone wiring. 5. Incompatibility with newer devices
