When using Prezi, it is important to have a general idea of what you want to create. Prezi makes this easy by providing templates that you can use. Simply choose a template and add your own text, pictures, or videos. Before you start, you may want to ask yourself the following questions:
Who is your audience?
A helpful strategy when designing your first Prezi is to think of who makes up your audience. Is it a group of teachers? Is it a group of your fellow students? Identifying your audience will allow you to better choose what kind of background and design you want to use.
What message are you trying to convey?
By understanding what message you are trying to convey to your audience, you will see that starting a Prezi is a fairly simple process. For example, if you are trying to convey information to a group of nursing students, you would most likely choose a template that helps to support the message you are sending.
Step 1: Setting a Background
When choosing a background for your presentation, be sure that the image you use is the appropriate size. Prezi suggests using an image that is 3000x3000 pixels, but slightly smaller sizes will work as well. Images can be saved to your computer and then uploaded to Prezi. Be sure that you do not use a copyrighted image!
Once you create a login for Prezi, you will be given the opportunity to either choose a template or start with a blank prezi. If you decide not to use a template, you can upload your own background. This tutorial will walk you through the steps of starting with a blank Prezi.
Setting a Background (cont'd):
When working with a blank template, it is easy to upload an image. Once you find an image, simply right-click on the image and choose the "Save Image As...." option. You can save the image to any file that you would like. Next, go to your blank Prezi, right-click on the background, and choose the file (image) that you would like to upload. You can then click "done" and Prezi will upload your background image.
Step 3: Adding Items to Prezi
Once you have set up your background and your frames, you can add text, pictures, videos, and symbols to your presentation. This is done by clicking on the "Insert" icon while in edit mode. From here, you can insert images, symbols, diagrams, videos, music, and a variety of different file types.
Step 2: Placing Frames in Prezi
One of the most exciting parts of using Prezi is the ability to place frames in different locations with different magnifications. First, click and drag on the background until you find the place you want your frame to be. Secondly, choose which type of frame you want from the "Frames and Arrows" icon at the top of the page. Next, click and drag your frame to the size you want. In addition, you can scroll with you mouse wheel to the magnification that you want. Please see the next slide for a video of how to do this.
There are a variety of websites that you can use to find images that are not copyrighted. This means that, with the appropriate license, you can use and share the images as you like. Here is a list of websites that you can use:

Now that you have an understanding of how to start a Prezi, please watch the video for additional information.
Step 4: Determining the Path
Once you have set up a background and learned how to insert frames, it is a good idea to decide on the path of your presentation. Deciding this will depend on the image you are working with. You will see the progression of your slides on the left side of the template. To add a slide, make sure that have located the place on your background that you want to be and click "add" in the bottom left corner of the screen. You will then be prompted to pick which type of frame you would like to use.
You have the ability to add animations, transitions, rotations, sounds, and music to your Prezi. These effects are great for engaging your audience (and making them a little dizzy)! Please see the next few slides for tutorials on how to do this.
