“I think that, when we earn more than what we need, it’s a responsibility to spend this amount of money wisely and cleverly.”

Joanne Rowling created the Volant Charitable Trust in order to help the causes she cares about : Find a cure to the sclerosis (the disease that ended the life of her mother), fight the social inequalities and help women and children who are in situations where there seems to be no way out.

Joanne Rowling is
born the 31st July 1965
(she is currently 51 years old).
Joanne Rowling is a
british novelist, screenwriter and movie producer
. She is best known for her fantasy series Harry Potter, which is the best-selling book series in history with more than
400 million copies sold
In 5 years, she moved from living on state benefits to
multi-millionaire thanks to the Harry Potter saga
In 2016, her net worth is about $1 billion. We can imagine that this sudden social climbing
can explain her philanthropist mind
. Indeed she did a lot of actions in order to help others.
In 2007, she wrote a collection of tales entitled
The Tales of Beedle The Bard
and sold only one book and auctioned it. The book has been sold for £1 950 000 (about €2,2 million). Joanne Rowling
gave the money to The Children Voice
, an association who helps children in need.
In 2000, she created
The Volant Charitable Trust
. This association uses its annual budget of £5 000 000 to
combat poverty and social inegalities

On October the 8th, 2013, Joanne Rowling attended the official opening of
the private hospital Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic
, at the University of Edinburgh. The private hospital was officially opened by the chancellor of the University, the Crown princess. The clinic was established following a substantial donation by Joanne Rowling, and is named in honor of her mother, Anne Rowling, who died from multiple sclerosis at the age of 45.
In 2000, Joanne Rowling created the Volant Charitable Trust, which uses its annual £5 000 000 budget to fight the poverty and the social inequality. A part of these funds is also put back to children and to the single-parent families charities but also to the search on the hardening plaques. Having already been herself in the position of lone parent, Joanne was First Ambassadress of the charity One Parent Families in 2000, and is today the president.
For us : The philanthropic work Joanne Rowling is accomplishing is wonderful. It is really hard for us to compete with that, but we all do several actions that are good for the world and for people around us :
- Car sharing
- Giving our old clothes
- Giving money to homeless people
- Giving money to associations
The Tales of Beedle The Bard
"If you choose to use your status and influence to raise your voice on behalf of those who have no voice; if you choose to identify not only with the powerful, but with the powerless; if you retain the ability to imagine yourself into the lives of those who do not have your advantages, then it will not only be your proud families who celebrate your existence, but thousands and millions of people whose reality you have helped to change. We do not need magic to transform the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already."
—Joanne Rowling on her Harvard Commencement Speech in June 5, 2008
