• Miscellanous Proteins Four Basic Processes Ingestion ~ Eating food
or drinking beverages Digestion ~ The process

of breaking down food Mechanical ~ The physical
processing of food Chemical ~ Changes food into
different substances Absorption ~ Where nutrients are absorbed into the blood stream Elimination ~ When you remove
waste from your body Purpose :
•Breaks down protiens and energy
•Protects body from toxins Nutrient ~ A source of
nourishment needed by
any living form to sustain
life Esophagus Peristals ~are muscular movements Stomach Juice mixes with food

Food goes through duodenium Duodenum ~ the first part of
the small intestine, and goes immediatly beyond the stomach, leading to the jejunum Small Intestine Large Intestine Anus Rectum ~ this is where the
remains are stored Fats Vitamins Minerals Water Pancreas ~ food leaves stomach

Villi ~ food particles are absorbed into the blood stream Liver ~ produces bile The anus gets rid of waste Purpose:
•Building and repairing
•Making horomones for
immune system Proteins Proteins are from food broken down into
amino acids by the digestive system Found In:

•Help body's metabolic reactions
