How do I use Hands-On Equations?
ESSENTIAL QUESTION
Let's practice.
HANDS-ON RULES
1. Blue pawns are "x."

2. Green cubes are positive numbers.

3. To complete a "legal move,"
use both hands.
x = 5
2x = 8
3x = x + 6
Draw the picture.
The object of the game is to have all the pawns on one side and everything else on the other side.
4x + 5 = 2x + 13
4x + 3 + x = 2x + 18
4x + 3 = x + 15
Solve each equation and draw each step.

5x - 3 - x = x - 21

One more.
4x + 2 - x = x + 10

5 - 7 (-9) - (-6) (-3) - (-5)
1. Blue pawns are "x." White pawns are the opposite of blue and called "star."
2. Green cubes are positive numbers.
Red cubes are the opposite of green.
3. If you don't have enough pieces to complete a move, do the opposite.
6. To complete a legal move, use both hands.
Explain how to simplify using the Counters Game rules.
6 - 9 (-7) - (-5) (-5) - (-7)
15 - 22 (-11) - (-6) (-12) - (-15)
17 - 19 (-14) - (-11) (-8) - (-13)
3 - (-7 ) (-12) - (-10) (-7) - (-9)
