Transcript of ENVIRONMENTAL CONSEQUENCES Prezi

Carbon dioxide is emitted during the burning of fossil fuels. CO2 is nutrition for plants, so it fertilizes them. CO2 is also the second most abundant greenhouse gas, so it helps keep the Earth warm. The Earth would be too cold for most life without greenhouse gases.
It also produces a large amount of electricity.
Environment is disturbed whenever a source of energy is used to derive energy from it.
Fossil fuels are the largest greenhouse gas emitters in the world, contributing 3/4 of all carbon, methane and other greenhouse gas emissions. Burning fossil fuels is the primary means by which electricity is produced, but also leads to heavy concentrations of pollutants in our air and water.
Hydroelectric power includes both massive hydroelectric dams and small run-of-the-river plants. Hydro power projects convert the
energy of fl owing water into electricity.
Wind energy is produced by wind mills. The wind spins the blades, which turn a shaft connected to a generator that produces electricity. Other turbines work the same way, but the turbine is on a vertical axis and the blades look like a giant egg beater
.
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impacts that a proposed project may have on the environment, consisting of the environmental, social and economic aspects
.

CONCLUSION
There are some negative effects on environment when we use fossil fuels for generating power. So we should use fossil fuels responsibly to avoid impact on environment and try to maximize usage of renewable energy sources like wind, solar, tidal and geo thermal energy resources.
IMPACTS OF FOSSIL FUELS
POSITIVE EFFECTS
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
Fossil fuels have been formed from the organic remains of long-dead plants and animals. They contain a high percentage of carbon and hydrocarbons
The burning of fossil fuels in affecting our earth many many ways:
Global warming
Air pollution
Rising sea level
Causes acid rain
IMPACTS OF HYDRO POWER PLANTS
POSITIVE EFFECTS
No air pollution.
No internal water consumption.
Water can be used for power generation and also for irrigation.
Water table will improve near the dam and ground water will be available
.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
There are environmental impacts of hydro power plants on earth:
Land Use
Wildlife Impacts
Gets prone to earthquakes because of their heights.
If there is any breach in the dam,low level areas down stream of the dam will be submerged.
IMPACTS OF WIND ENERGY
NEGATIVE EFFECTS

THANK YOU!!
ENVIRONMENTAL
CONSEQUENCES

POSITIVE EFFECTS
It is non polluting and environmental friendly source of energy . It is an important renewable and sustainable source of energy. Wind mill converts wind energy to mechanical or electrical energy
Continuous whirling and whistling of wind mills causes noise pollution and plays havoc with the lives of migratory birds. Land use is more and therefore many livelihoods are destroyed.
IMPACTS OF THERMAL POWER PLANT
In thermal power plants heat energy is converted into mechanical and electrical energy.

POSITIVE EFFECTS

Thermal power plant emit carbondioxide which is harmful for environments. It leads to golbal warming because it is a green house effect gas.
Thermal power plant require lot of fresh water. water will be scarce for living things and agriculture.
Fossil fuels contain some amount of Sulfur.when we burn fossil fuels oxides of sulfur,Nitrogen and carbon are released into atmosphere.Thes eoxides will cause acid precipitation and acid rain.
When coal is handled for power generation, lot of fine dust is generated causing air pollution with solid particles.
Lot of ash is generated when coal is burned. In absence of safe handling methods to dispose ash it will cause land pollution.
Unregulated mining of coal may cause adverse effects like earth quakes and sink holes inn the surrounding area.
Bio mass fuels also has similar effects on environment like in fossil fuels. Only difference is bio mass fuels are renewable and need not be mined.
For generating bio mass fuels forests may have to be cut, which will affect environment due to soil erosion and no rains.
Requires lot of land for generating bio mass fuels
.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
IMPACTS OF BIOMASS
POSITIVE EFFECTS
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
Thermal power plant has no positive effect on environment
Bio waste instead of dumping in dump yards it can be effectively used for producing bio gas and residue can be used as fertilizer.
Bio mass is agriculture waste, fallen leaves, food waste, and things like rice husk, coconut kernel and ground nut shell etc
.
Solar energy is energy that is present in sunlight. It has been used for thousands of years in many different ways by people all over the world. As well as its traditional human uses in heating, cooking, and drying, . It is becoming cheaper to make electricity from solar energy
IMPACTS OF SOLAR ENERGY
POSITIVE EFFECTS
It’s a totally renewable source of energy. The power comes from the sun. The sun is free and inexhaustible
Solar energy systems are also silent, and usually have no loud moving parts so they do not release any sort of disturbing noise pollutions.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
solar power can include land use and habitat loss, water use, and the use of hazardous materials in manufacturing
Nuclear Energy, energy released during the splitting or fusing of atomic nuclei. The energy of any system, whether physical, chemical, or nuclear, is manifested by the system’s ability to do work or to release heat or radiation.
IMPACTS OF NUCLEAR ENERGY
POSITIVE IMPACTS
Of all energy sources, nuclear energy has perhaps the lowest impact on the environment, including water, land, habitat, species, and air resources. It is the most eco-efficient of all energy sources because it produces the most electricity relative to its environmental impact.
NEGATIVE IMPACTS
Releases of small amounts of radioactive isotopes during reactor operation
It produces more waste heat thus making the environment hot and rise the temperature.
