American Values
Efficiency and Practicality
Definition: ability to accomplish a job with a minimum expenditure of time and effort.

This ad expresses the value of efficiency because its showing young adults being able to explore the world with an easy to roll suitcase meaning they can travel with minimum effort.
Work and Activity
Definition: Exertion or effort directed to produce or accomplish something; labor; toil.

With the busy american lifestyle, its important to have the correct equipment to get the job done. This advertisement expresses the busyness of american ways and makes the boots work with the crazy.
Material Comfort
Definition: feeling comfort in material objects; dependence on material objects

This ad is expressing the need for material comfort saying you'll be sexy, you'll be drinking the sexy drink when you buy Pepsi Light, playing to our need and want for material objects.
Definition: loyalty or devotion to one's country; patriotism.

This ad represents nationalism because cars nowadays are being imported from out of the country and Chrysler is embracing the fact that their cars are imported straight from the Motor City, the car capitol of America.
Education or Youthfulness
Definition of Education: the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.
Definition of Youthfulness: having an appearance, freshness, vigor, etc., of youth

This ad represents both american values but playing the college card. The ad claims the cigarettes are best selling in America's colleges, so smoking them could mean you're choice of cigarettes is intelligent or smoking makes you youthful.
Concern for the Environment
Definition: any person who advocates or works to protect the air, water, animals, plants, and other natural resources from pollution or its effects.

This ad expresses its concern for the animals killed by cars in America. Drivers don't watch as well as they should and it ends in harming our wild life and environment.
Group Superiority
Definition: the belief in the inherent superiority of one's own ethnic group or culture

This ad is from around the 1950's - 1960's era when women were expected the wear dresses and skirts. When woman started to wear pants, ads came out, such as this one, asking "what will the men wear". The ad shows the belief that men are the superior group and woman are the inferior group.
Definition: exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc.

This ad plays on the tendency of Americans to lean toward freedom. The idea of freedom from anything is appealing to Americans. The play on the freedom from thirst is based off our core value.
Definition: the particular character, or aggregate of qualities, that distinguishes one person or thing from others; sole and personal nature

This Dr. Pepper ad works with our need, as Americans, is to be an individual. Dr. Pepper ads have a reputation of celebrities saying their one of a kind just like this drink. Dr. Pepper is pretty much saying, "If you drink this drink, you too will be one of a kind".
Definition: the state or quality of being equal; correspondence in quantity, degree, value, rank, or ability.

This ad shows three human hearts, one from a white person, one from a black person, and one from a "yellow" person, but if the words weren't there, you couldn't tell the different. We are all the same, equal, on the inside.
