What is the purpose of a map key?

a. to show symbols on a map
b. to tell what symbols represent
c. to display North, South, East, and West
d. to open up a map that is locked
Standard: SS01-S4C2-02 Identify characteristics of maps and globes: compass rose, symbols, key/legend.
SS01-S4C2-03 Construct a map of a familiar place (e.g. classroom, bedroom, playground) that includes a compass rose, symbols, and key/legend.
Objective: Students will be able to construct a map of the classroom and construct a compass rose, symbols, and key/legend to go with it.
