About Elsa Schiaparelli
Many of old brands forgotten from fashion house. Elsa Schiaparelli was one of the most Italian innovative couturiers of the 20th Century. She translated the basic elements of modern art, simplicity, continuity of line, and contrast, into wearable art.
She worked with a number of contemporary artists to develop her imaginative designs, most famously with Salvador Dalí.
1930 - 1939
Dies at home in Paris at the age of 83. She had been in a coma for several weeks following a stroke. She is buried in Shocking pink. Her looping signature is emblazoned in gold on her gravestone.
Elsa Schiaparelli was born at the Palazzo Corsini in Rome
Elsa moved to Paris from New York and in 1924, Meets the couturier Paul Poiret, who gives her clothes to wear and encourages her to do some freelance designing.
In 1927, Presents her first collection of geometric-design sweaters. First perfume, “S,” appears in the July 15th issue of Vogue.
After WWII, in 1954 Schiaparelli declared bankruptcy and closed her fashion house. Although she continued to re-work old themes such as the bustle and asymmetrical cuts, the war had radically changed not only the physical landscape of Europe but the fashion landscape along with it. Maybe war also affect mood and her aesthetic had simply gone out of fashion.
Designers nowadays do not really innovative, they only make clothes so people and the press would talk about them. Indeed, Madame Schiaparelli was revolutionizing fashion—and modernizing fashion presentations as we know them today.

Mr. McQueen was a showman with very high expectations for fashion. He knew how to cut a dress, a jacket and a pair of pants with the best of them, but that was not enough for him. He also wanted fashion to have weight and content and depth, so he put on presentations - spectacles, really - of his collections that aimed to have the punch of art and that were sometimes political, sociological, shocking and scary. The McQueen brand was just 18 years old when he died.
