Born in Atlanta, Georgia and had a full name of Michael Luther King Jr.
Later changed name to Martin Luther King Jr.
Mother- Alberta Christine Williams King
Father- Michael Luther King Sr. (changed name later to Martin Luther King Sr.
One younger brother- Alfred Daniel Williams King
One older sister- (birth name) Willie Christine King
Early Life
Believed in three evils:
Poverty- unemployment, homelessness, hunger, malnutrition, illiteracy, infant mortality, slums, etc...
Racism- prejudice, ethnic conflict, homophobia, ageism, discrimination against disabled groups, stereotypes, etc…
Militarism- war, imperialism, domestic violence, terrorism, human trafficking, media violence, drugs, child abuse, violent crime, etc…
Believed the world needed a non-violent social change
Needed to cleanse world of 3 evils
Basic Principals
MLK, himself, was influenced especially by:
Ghandi- leader of Indian independence movement
Abe Lincoln- previous US president involved in anti-slavery
Leo Tolstoy- Russian novelist, believed in united community
MLK's Influence on others:
Involved in protests
Heavily influenced civil right movements
Changed the view of hundreds of thousands op people based on civil rights

Also studied at Harvard
In Spring of 1668 King was preparing to march in Washington
Was called to Memphis Tennessee
April 3, King gave his speech at Mason Temple Church in Memphis
“I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I’m happy tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”
On the following day King was assassinated
