Mountain peaks rise up to 2,660 feet, and receive one of the heaviest rainfalls in the world of 400 inches/yr.
Large amount of rain makes it possible for a tropical jungle to grow as well.

The national government capital of the Federated States of Micronesia Palikir, is located within Pohnpei which is also the largest of the Micronesian islands. Palikir has population of only about 7000.
