Students take a quiz in CANVAS instead of using pencil and paper.

Teachers can instantly get reports from quizzes in three different formats in CANVAS rather than calculating it out later on.

Typing up a lab write up but also using spell checks, grammar checks, and thesaurus along the way

Using a RUBRIC in CANVAS to grade an assignment and having it instantly apply the grade to the grade book rather than a paper rubric and having to put it in manually to the grade book
What is a Teacher to DO?
The key to proper implementation of technology is using it when it helps but putting it away when it doesn’t.
SAMR MODEL
SAMR
Realisation
and
Substitution
Writing a quick prompt or typing it in CANVAS
Our students think and learn differently now then they ever have - what has changed
Large increases in media consumption
Multitasking
Social Networking
Access to massive amounts of media
Constant availability of information and the death of memorizing
E-Communication
Differences in IGEN
Our students are growing up in a world where the internet and computers are no longer things that were invented, they have just always been there.
Most of our students have used technology ever day since they were young - it is part of who they are.
How students use technology in their lives
Communication
Social interaction
Organization
Efficiency
Gathering information
Creating Stuff
Entertainment
these 7 things are exactly how we use technology in the classroom as well
Technology Integration Matrix
Create a shared document or page for collaborating in CANVAS instead of trying to get together after school or during school-
SAVES TIME, ORGANIZES, & INCREASED SOCIAL INTERACTION.

Make digital graphs, videos, pictures, etc. and add these to presentations that are sent to CANVAS -
Better student products

Able to hand in assignments from anywhere and have it go directly into the folder the teacher wants it in instead of waiting until they are in class. -
SAVES TIME and ORGANIZES

Use chat to discuss the lab write up from where ever they are -
SAVES TIME

Students digitally PEER review each others work using a designated rubric and leave comments that are instantly sent to the other students regardless of where either of them are.
- SAVES TIME and DEVELOPS UNDERSTANDING

All of this can happen from a mobile phone, laptop, IPAD, library, etc. -
SAVES TIME and ORGANIZES

Class Calendar, assignments, and assessments are all linked so if you change one it changes the other -
SAVES TIME

Teachers can upload assignments, assessments, discussions....well anything worth sharing to the commons and teachers across the district now have access to it! -
SAVES TIME, ORGANIZES, INCREASED SOCIAL INTERACTION, BETTER ASSESSMENT, INCREASED COLLABORATION!

Teachers have the ability to align all assignments even QUESTIONS to OUTCOME indicators and produce proficiency reports at a variety of levels allowing for instant CFA data to aid in the DCLT process!
- SAVES TIME, ORGANIZES, BETTER ASSESSMENT, INCREASED COLLABORATION, FASTER RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION!

All course content saved from the last year can be RE-uploaded within a matter of minutes and it automatically realigns to the new year dates
- SAVES TONS of TIME, ORGANIZES,

Students who miss class due to emergencies, family issues, etc. can now keep up with the class because all materials are readily available without even talking to the teacher.
- SAVES TONS of TIME, ORGANIZES,

THERE ARE MANY MORE BUT LETS TAKE BABY STEPS

Rubric use during presentations
Worksheets that included diagramming or short writing
A few examples of times it did not work for me
Good Technology should
Make the students/teachers more efficient
Make the students/teachers more organized
Give Students/Teachers new ways of communication and social interaction
Should make information accessible easily for students/teachers
Give students ways to show proficiency in a variety of ways and medians.
Give Teachers ways to efficiently run the DCLT process
At least one good use
that was not a substitution
