Method (making the cards)
Our research topic is memory. The research topic is: “Does age affect memory?” The participants included anyone we could find between the ages 1-70. To be more specific, our participants ranged from students, teachers, and Benson's sisters. Our method to determining if age affected memory was to group ages by increments of 10 (an example of what we did would be ages 1-10, 11-20, 21-30,… all the way up to ages 61-70). We did a total of 6 trials, with 14 people in each trial; 2 people in each age group. To determine someone’s memory quality, We created a memory game. To play the memory game, We had 30 cards that was composed of 2 copies of 15 images. We laid out the cards face down, set a timer to 2 minutes, and told the participant that they had to make as many matches as they could in the allotted time. This value, along with their age, was recorded into a data table. After that we calculated the averages of each group and then used these numbers to test my hypothesis.
Abstract
If we were to do this experiment again we would make the time shorter from 2 minutes to 1 minute. This is because many people were completing all of the matches before 2 minutes. We thought the data would be in jeopardy and that it wouldn’t be statistically significant. We also hadn't take into account that people are really competitive. When some of the participants found out that they had only 30 seconds left they would get frantic and would try to get all of the matches completed before the timer went off.
Background
The human brain is composed of three parts; the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brain stem. Within the cerebellum, the hippo campus is one of the only areas that grow new neurons. Meaning more memories are stored.
- Memories can be described as a filing cabinet which is able to access certain memories, this is deemed selective.
-If information is deemed important it will be stored for further use.
Memory loss ---> medication, alcohol, tobacco, drug use, sleep deprivation, and stress.
MEMORY GAMES ARE DESIGNED TO HELP MEASURE HOW WELL A PERSON'S MEMORY IS.
Factors affecting memory include attention, working memory, long term memory, and information processing speed.
Is Memory affected by Age?
If age increases then the number of possible matches, in the memory game, will decrease
Hypothesis

1. Choose 15 random images and place them in a word document. Then copy 15 images so that there is a total of 30 images.
2. Re size the images so that they are all the same size.
3. Print the images out
4. Cut the images out and stack them so that you have one deck of memory games.
5. Make multiple deck of cards if needed.

1. Find participants that fit within the age groups.
2. Inform the participant about the experiment.
3. Shuffle the deck of cards and arrange them on the table with the images facing down.
4. Set a timer to two minutes and allow the participant to complete as many as matches as they completed into the data table.

Method
The data results are in. The investigation discovery shows how human beings can behave under pressure and when they're given a time restriction on what they have at hand. Some subjects were competitive with words coming out that would have never had came out from someone in our younger generations. The hypothesis stated that if aged increased then the number of matches made in the memory game would decrease. The inference was that the youngest generation would have less matches and the same for the oldest generation. As age increased from the first age group matches increased and as age groups slowly were reaching more higher levels, matches started decreasing. The youngest age group had an average of 6.17 matches with the oldest age group having an average of 9.75 matches. When conducting the experiment, what was analyzed was that much younger generations seemed more relaxed and calm while the older generations saw it as a challenge and wanted to beat the timer.
- To improve the experiment, one would change the timer setting to one minute, because most subjects managed to get all the matches completed.

Short & Sweet Abstract
Ever wondered why as we get older it gets more difficult to remember to what we had for breakfast yesterday, yet we can remember every detail of our first kiss or our first car? Does age really affect memory? By using a simple memory game this lab will test how good someone's memory is depending on how many matches that person can complete within 2 minutes.

In conclusion to this lab, the data that was received proved that the predictions that were given are in fact correct. Our hypothesis stated that if age increases then the number of matches would decrease. By looking at the results, one should see that the conclusion is correct. Even though the experiment had some errors along the way, one managed to go along with the flow. In final words, even though silly mistakes were made, one still managed to receive results one wanted recieve from the beginning, which is very satisfying.
