Transcript of Problem Based Learning in the English Language Arts Classroom

in the Language Arts Classroom Problem Based Learning Students are actively engaged in solving a "real world" problem so more of their time is spent on task because they are invested in the outcome of the solved problem--not just memorizing facts for a test. In working to solve a problem, students construct meaning by adding to existing knowledge which leads to deeper understanding and helps develop strategic thinking and problem solving skills. The teacher becomes the facilitator for student centered group learning where collaboration is key and communication is vital for success. The students are more invested in learning when they are in the driver's seat instead of passively going along for the ride. Problem Based Learning improves problem solving skills, research skills, writing skills, and social skills which provides a model for life long learning. Engaged Students Strategic
