The Franks move to Amsterdam to escape anti-Semitism in Germany

September 1, 1939
The German invasion of Poland marks the start of World War 2.
May 15, 1940
The Netherlands surrender after the German invasion.
February 22, 1941
The Nazis begin the first roundup
of the Jewish people in Amsterdam.

What the Secret Annex was:
The Secret Annex was where the Frank family & a couple other Jewish familes hid during the holocaust. It was a small apartment like hidout upove Anne Frank's fathers old office building in the Netherlands.
July 6, 1942
Otto (Anne's Father), Edith (Anne's Mother), Margot (Anne's Sister) and Anne move into the secret annex.
June 6, 1944 (D Day)
The Allies begin the invasion of Nazi - occupied territory.
August 4, 1944
The Nazis arrest the eight Jewish
people hiding at the Secret
August 8, 1944
The Franks, the Van Pels, and Fritz Pfeffer (the people staying in the Secret Annex) are all sent to Westerbork.
September 3, 1944
The residents of the Secret Annex board the train for Auschwitz.
Anne and her older sister Margot are taken
to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
Margot and Anne become sick with typhus and die in
Typhus - "an infectious disease characterized by a purple rash, headaches & fevers. Historically a cause of high mortality during wars and famines."
June 3, 1945
Otto (Anne & Margot's father), the only survivor from the Secret Annex, returns to Amsterdam at
the end of the war.
