Youth for Christ Talk 3
God's Love and His Plan for Us
how it brings us to the point where we just have to decide for ourselves how we should respond to Him.
Who is Jesus Christ to Me?
He himself invites us into a personal relationship with Him.
The right time has come, the kingdom of God is near, turn away from your sins and believe in the Gospel..." (Mark 1:15)
REPENT + HAVE FAITH
THE FIRST STEPS IN RESPONSE TO GOD'S LOVE AND INVITATION!
What the !@#$ is REPENTANCE?!
Feeling terrible about yourself
Getting rid of all tendencies to sin
Repentance REALLY is:
from the Greek word "metanoia", which literally means change of heart/mind
An act of will, a decision
Turning away from sin and look towards God
Some sins to repent from:
Cheating, lying, stealing, cursing, green jokes, slander and gossip
Abuse of alcohol and/or illegal substances
What must we do to repent?
The 4 H's!!
Hate the sin
Have a good Confession. :)
We need to have faith that when we come to the Lord in REPENTANCE, He will forgive us and give us the strength to follow Him.
Basically, TIWALA LANG.
Matthew 14: 22 - 33
Jesus Walks on the Water
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.
"Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Acts 16: 31
...“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved —you and your household.”
Luke 11: 9-11
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?
We need Healing.
When we come before God and respond to Him, we first acknowledge our sinfulness and come before Him in repentance and then in faith, ask for forgiveness.
We also ask Him to heal us, because these hurts, sinful ways are obstacles which keep us from totally receiving God's grace.
But healing cannot begin without:
Healing begins when:
a. When we forgive
b. When we ask for forgiveness
c. When we humbly ask God to heal us
d. When we serve others, focus more on helping others “heal” instead of focusing on ourselves
