Choice Theory in the Class The Characteristics of the 5 Basic Needs: They are universal. They are genetic and in-born. Can evolve over time. They are our internal motivation. All behavior is purposeful to meet a need. Each of us is responsible for meeting our own needs. Helping to create an environment where
others can responsibly meet their needs
will make a stronger group. So, what are the 5 Basic Needs? 1. Survival This represents the physiological needs of the body: Our survival needs must be met before we can focus on psychological
needs. 1. Power/Success This need drives us to mastery. The need for competence, skill, excellence, achievement. Food, water, shelter, air, clothing, sleep 2. Fun Joy, Excitement Learning, Playing Games Spontaneity Humour 3. Love/Belonging This need drives us towards people. Family, Friends, Teams, hanging out. 4. Freedom Choices Expression Exploring Go where we want. Spend time with who we want. The 4 Psychological Needs in no particular order are, So, in sum, there are 5 needs. One need is Physiological--->> Survival. The other 4 are Psychological:

Power/Success
Fun
Love/Belonging
