Transcript of MUSIC

Wiki Group 1

Pop music is derived from the rock and roll of the 1950s and 60s. Although many believe it to be the same as 'popular' music, pop music is a genre of popular music, which may include genres of any type.
Music has a vast number of genres, five of which we have chosen to explore; Hindi, Folk, Rock, Rap and Pop. Whilst maintaining the use of reliable and credible online sources throughout our research, we explored three main themes within each music genre. These included information on the history, most influential artists and number one hits which we have compiled into a credible online informational resource.

Indian / Hindi music is based on Indian Culture, which is an integral   part of Bollywood movies and music. According to Indian scripture, music originated in the hand of Lord Brahma who created the Vedas. There are 14 subcategories of Indian style of music. To name a few it is Indian classical, Hindi music, Film (Bollywood style music), Qawwali and Bhajan. Each has its own place and identity. (Timesofindia.indiatimes.com,2015),(Red FM 93.5 FM-Bauaa Red FM- RED FM 93.5 Delhi Online - RJ Raunac,2015)

Folk Music was traditionally known as musical stories about the ways of families, nations and / or the world.
(Ruehl 2011)
It tends to have fiddle, drums, flute and / or whistle.

Thought to have originated hundreds of years ago through the Griots of West African culture, Rap wasn’t widely recognised until the 1970’s when it became popular amongst African-American communities (Rapworld n.d.). Rap is best described as talking in rhyme to the rhythm of a beat and artists generally speak alongside an instrumental or synthesised beat (Rapworld n.d.).

Rock music dates back to the 1940s and 1950s deriving from Rhythm and Blues, mixed with some country and western and fused with a little rockabilly. Today's rock music makes use of sampling techniques, and digital / computer technology (Scaruffi 2009, p.3).

To justify our online sources of information used within this presentation, we followed five criteria (Metzger 2007, pg2) to determine credibility and reliability:
Accuracy – web site was free from errors and the information was reliable
Authority – authors contact information was available
Objectivity – was the information fact or fiction
Currency – was the information up to date
Coverage – did the information contain depth
This enabled us to locate reliable information online and credibly evaluate the content before including it.

In conclusion, research of our chosen topic, sub topics and themes proved to be difficult whilst ensuring that the online sources were reliable and credible. However by focusing on accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency and coverage as outlined in Metzger’s article (Metzger 2007, pg 2079), we ensured that all on-line information used in our presentation was reliable and credible resulting in the production of a highly credible and informative resource.
