What Grade Level Stellaluna would be a great independent reading book for second graders.

Rationale: This is an independent book at the second grade level because there are challenging vocabulary words and a plot that second graders should be able to understand. Who Created the Book? Written and Illustrated by Janell Cannon

Rationale: In Stellaluna there are characters; Stellaluna, flip, flitter, and many more. There is also a plot. Preview A baby bat named Stellaluna lives with birds because she gets separated from her mother. She begins to eat, sleep and fly like the birds until she is reunited with the other bats. Stellaluna learns an important lesson about being different but also the same! Vocabulary Sultry- very hot and humid

Clutched- to grab something

Tangle- to twist together

Clambered- to climb in a weird way

Clumsy- awkward movement

Anxious- afraid of what may happen

Peculiar- strange

Perched- to rest on something
