Transcript of The First Thanksgiving

A First Grade Lesson Series The First Thanksgiving Introduction Credits This lesson is about the first Thanksgiving, allowing students to learn where Thanksgiving came from. It is geared toward first graders and explores pilgrims and indians. This series of lessons includes virtual field trips that are sure to capture the attention of the class.

Supplemental Texts for Book Bins Resources and Materials The class will create a KWL chart- Fill out the "Know" and "Want to know" section. This will let the teacher know the extent of background knowledge.

The students will also listen to a recording of Arthur's Thanksgiving to generate interest. Before Reading As teacher reads aloud from The First Thanksgiving, he/she will stop at corresponding parts of text to take virtual Smartboard tours of the Mayflower and Plymouth Plantation

Following this reading, the teacher will read aloud parts from Samuel Eaton's Day and Sarah Morton's Day as supplemental information of pilgrim's lives during the time of the first Thanksgiving. As information is read, students will offer information to be put into two Venn Diagrams: one in comparison of boy/girl pilgrim lives, one in comparison of pilgrim/indian lives.
