A few aspects of the experiment had to be controlled so that it would be more accurate. One of the factors that had to be controlled was which variable had to be changed. This factor would be the temperature of the magnets. To make sure that this is the only factor that affects the results
all other variables such as exposure time, number of paper clips and distance from paperclip must all stay the same. The variable that is being measured is how many paperclips each magnet can attract. The levels of independent variables are cold, freezing, room-temperature and boiling. The number of trials for each temperature was 3.
Temperature's Affect on Magnetic Force
Scientific Question-
Procedure-
1- Gather materials
2- Place the containers side by side
3- Make sure the water in the container is the right temperature using infrared thermometer
freezing: 0 degrees Celsius
cold: 5-10 degrees Celsius
room-temperature: 20-25 degrees Celsius
boiling: 100 degrees Celsius
3- Put a magnet in each container
4- Leave them there for 10 minutes
5- Take them out and dry them off
6- One by one hold them 4-5 cm above 50 paper clips and see how many they attract.
7- Redo steps 1-7 two more times.
A magnet produces a invisible force around itself called a magnetic field.
The two types of materials that are affected be a magnetic field are called either paramagnetic and ferromagnetic.
Paramagnetic materials are materials that are under the influence of a magnet only when within its magnetic field.
Ferromagnetic material, however, can retain the magnetic qualities it possessed even when the magnetic field is removed.
Despite their name permanent magnets can be demagnetized.
If a magnet is heated up it will lose its magnetic qualities until it cools back down.
Although if a magnet heats up to the point it reaches its Curie point it could permanently lose their magnetic qualities.
The atoms in a permanent magnet are spontaneously arranged in a way where it can retain its magnetic properties since the atoms strengthen each other by going the same direction. So adding heat disrupts this alignment and causes a magnet to lose its magnetic strength.
If the temperature of a magnet increases then, its magnetic force will decrease because the heat will change the magnets atoms in a way less allowing of attraction.

Conclusion

The warmer the temperature of a magnet is the less magnetic force it has.
My hypothesis was supported by the results of the experiment.
The magnet that was exposed to the lowest temperature attracted the most paper clips.
One source of error in the experiment was that some magnets might not have been the temperatures they were supposed to be.
