Transcript of Why do people involve themselves in extreme sports?

John Hart III
*John Hart III was my interviewee and is the chief instructor with Start Skydiving Association.

*He was the right man to interview because of his experiences everyday with the people who involve themselves in the sport and also does it himself.

*When I asked him my main question, he easily said what the research mainly talked about; that these people that came on a daily basis to skydive were always skydiving for the rush of excitement that the extreme sport produces.

Background
How people can get into extreme sports
Fun Facts
*Extreme or adrenaline sports are defined as
activities where there is a high degree of risk
to the participant.

*Participants in these sports
need certain skills or training to perform these sports.

*Extreme sports can include: Extreme diving, Rock climbing, Motorcross, Skiing/Snowboarding and more.

*Some people can be addicted to the thought of fame, money or glory

*Someone might also want the glory and to become famous. An example is The Genius Book of World Records. All this could be very dangerous.
*There were BMX events for the first time ever at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

*The first BASE jump to be video taped was a 1978 jump from El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

*The hardest motorcross trick is a double backflip performed mid-air off a ramp.

*Over 12.5 million people in the world skateboard. Skateboards started as "sidewalk surfboards" in the 1950's but the signature skateboard trick, the "ollie" that started it all, wasn't done until the 1970's. Skateboards got so popular that the military tested them in the 1990's to see if they were useful during combat operations.

* If the diver points head-down during their fall, they can reach speeds up to 200 mph.

* In 2007, surfers in Brazil broke the world record for the most surfers catching the same wave with 84 surfers riding at the exact same time.
*The main age group that is participating in extreme sports is 20-35 years of age.

*Although many age groups are becoming increasingly higher; teenagers because of there interest in new things; and 55+ because of their interest to do things before they die.

*Research shows that the main reason people involve themselves in extreme sports is because of the thrill and adrenaline rush of the activity.

*Adrenaline is like a drug to them. They get a natural high created by the release of dopamine from your body.

*Fear can decrease.
