Administration for Children and Families
Transcript of Administration for Children and Families
How the budget is split up now
Created April 15, 1991 within the Department of Health and Human Services
Why was it created?
To improve the lives of children and families.
The Administration for Children and Families started working with other federal agencies in 1993 to develop information-sharing opportunities and coordinated activities. They are now able to provide the Department of Veterans Affairs with compensation and pension payment records along with interstate public assistance benefit information. From 1993 to 1997, the ACF provided 29 state public assistance agencies with Veterans Affair compensation and benefit information.
To the function of government: Helps the states provide child welfare services, foster care, and adoption services. It provides many programs to support children and families and also works with kids on early childhood development.
Role within the executive branch: to advise the Assistant Secretary for children and families on all policy and programmatic matters, serving as the primary contact for the Dept. of Health and Human Services, the Executive Branch, and the Congress on all legislative, budget development and execution and regulatory activities.

Budget Cuts will hurt this program even more than they already are.
There have already had budget cuts which have caused foster agencies to have to cut some social workers.
Also cuts have affected the children. They are now staying in shelters longer than usual.
Since the cuts there is a shortage of foster parents, because it is expensive to raise a child.
What budget cuts have already done
Imagine this being cut even more!!
As you can see...
This program helps many kids.
If there are budget cuts children experiencing a hard time at home, won't have the chance to have a good experience in a home with a family that cares for them.
The Family Violence Prevention and Services Program is committed to:
Providing shelter and other supportive services for victims and their children.
Increasing public awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence, dating violence and family violence.
Offers violence prevention programs
Foster Care is...
a safe placement for children and youth who cannot remain in their homes.
a family willing to take in children who need a loving family.
What budget cuts would do...
If a family needs to get out, because of violence in the home, they may have no where safe to go.
Victims will have less assistance in obtaining protection orders, and counseling.
