Duties of Priests
Architecture of Ancient Egypt
The Ancient Egyptians built many things. They had great taste in architecture and size and was very good at it. Their buildings had lasted for thousands of years. They had better perfection than us when it comes to constructing and designing. The Egyptians were also very complex thinkers. They built many things like pylons, obelisks, temples and great pyramids.
Hieroglyphics is the original language used in Ancient Egypt. It was made up of pictures that represented objects. Later, hieroglyphics were used as syllables. Most Egyptians could not read or write. Most of the people that could read or write were scribes. Later, they developed two more writing systems. They are the hieratic and demotic. They were used for other purposes. After the Egyptian kingdom has fallen, the writing systems were no longer used and people forgot about it. People were confused by the language. During Napoleon's time, a piece of rock was found. There were Greek, demotic and hieroglyphics carved on it. It was called the ''Rosetta Stone''. People used this as a translator. That is why we know their language today.
Priests were one step below the pharaoh. They were very religious people. According to the Ancient Egyptian society, they believed that they were" the servants of the gods". They would preform or put of a show of magic to the gods and their temples. They would also preform funeral act to the dead. Although, they could not usually contact the common people. Every three months they would not leave their temples. Although, they were aloud to have a spouse and children.
