Sex in Advertizements

Many Magazines for men like Maxim and FHM have experimented with their covers. When ads are more sexually provocative, men in particular are irresistibly drawn to them. Men respond to sexual images. And if an advertisement creates a sexual situation, it will get the desired response.
Sex has been utilized in advertising since its beginning. The earliest forms are wood carvings and illustrations of attractive women (often unclothed from the waist up) adorned posters, signs, and ads for saloons, tonics, and tobacco. In several notable cases, sex in advertising has been claimed as the reason for increased consumer interest and sales. The earliest known use of sex in advertising is by the Pearl Tobacco brand in 1871, which featured a naked maiden on the package cover. In 1885, W. Duke & Sons inserted trading cards into cigarette packs that featured sexually provocative starlets. Duke grew to become the leading cigarette brand by 1890 (Porter, 1971).
This commercial is targeted toward teenage girls and women because its provocative . Their strategy was by using a male model and taking his shirt off.
Here is a graph showing how many people were turned on or off by Rihanna in that Armani Underwear commercial. Even more woman have not found this appealing.
This is a Victoria Secret modeling video is advertizing there clothing line. In this video it says this Christmas and one gift this means this commercial is targeted towards men shopping for there lovers. The girls in the video are really attractive so people think if they buy these cloths for there lover there lovers will be attractive like the girls in the video.

Does the sexual themes work?

Yes actually lots of ads that use sexual themes tend to sell their product well. For example, if a semi-naked attractive man or women on the cover of a magazine, the male/female is more likely to want to read it whereas if they were wearing clothes it wouldn't attract the eye of attention and wouldn't be considered as attractive, it wouldn't make as many sales, maybe none at all. A big one is men and women's clothing lines in magazines.
According to the Healthy Place website, by the time a girl is 17 years old, she has been subjected to 250,000 advertisements, many of which depict fashion models with unrealistically thin bodies. This exposure has many negative effects on the developing minds of girls and can lead to unhealthy habits, poor self esteem and experimentation with tobacco products.
Do Sexual Commercials Brainwash?

Sexual commercials brainwash men and women. A single provocative commercial can cause many people throughout the world to buy the product they are representing, even if the product is garbage.
The customers they are advertizing to, may buy the product 1 maybe 2 times, then they will realize that they have been sucked into buying the product. Then they will stop buying the product.
These advertizements will also brainwash people to make them feel like they have to look and feel a certain way. This negatively effects guys and girls lives everyday.
Not only does a sexy appeal in a
commercial persuade people to
buy the product, it also can make
girls/guys self conscious and lower their self of steam.
These clothes are targeted towards teenage girls.
