Guidelines for Assertion Journals
You will be given a quotation, photograph, or video clip, etc.

You should clearly explain the speaker's assertion (claim). What is he/she
really
saying? Who is the speaker, the message, the purpose, the audience? (Think rhetorical triangle.) If you can do this, you are analyzing the text to determine meaning.

Then, you should
defend, challenge, or qualify
the assertion, noting any complexities of the issue (complexities are key!). You may use personal relevant example, including historical/contemporary/pop culture, etc.

2. Use an eating or drinking verb in a sentence which expresses anger about a situation that might occur in your daily life.

use the verb to literally express eating or drinking. Instead,
express your anger through the verb
