The Five Themes of Geography Theme Number One... LOCATION! Where Is It? Absolute Location A location can be absolute (specific) as in coordinates of a map using longitude and latitude Relative Location A location can be unspecific, like just down the road. Or, it can be in the same general location as another location. For example, next to the post office. PLACE! School Nursery University of Washington Oregon A place is an area that is defined by everything in it. All places have features that give them personality and distinguish them from other places. Theme number three... MOVEMENT! Movement refers to the way people...  ...products ...and ideas... ...move from one place to another. Theme number four is... REGIONS! A region is an area that is defined by certain similar characteristics. Those similar characteristics can be physical, human, or cultural.  Puget Sound Region... ...Puget Sound region has the Cascade Mountains, Elliot Bay and the Puget Sound (physical characteristics). in the Puget Sound region, many people work in aeronautics, technology or biotechnology (human characteristics). ...people in the Puget Sound, culturally are most known for being well educated, coffee drinking, outdoor enthusiasts (cultural characteristics). The final theme of geography is... HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION! Human-environment interaction looks at the relationships between people and their environment; how people adapt to the environment and how they change it.
