Association of Southeast Asian Nations

Countries in
Brunei Darussalam
ASEAN was formed August 8, 1967
The goals of ASEAN are:
• to include accelerating economic growth, social progress, and cultural development among its members
• to ensure the protection of regional peace and stability
• to make opportunities for member countries to discuss differences peacefully
Some issues ASEAN face:
Challenges of maritime sovereignty in South China and “tugs-of-war” issues with China
They are third world counties that must work together so a dictatorship wont overthrow them. The counties get threats of potential communist insurgency
