Transcript of Racism

Racism Throughout the 1930's racism
had occured almost everywhere
in the U.S. To kill a mockingbird has many points
where the theme of racism occurs. Some groups like the Ku Klux Klan hated African Americans and had done terrible things to them The Snowman Jem and Scout have exprienced
their first snowy winter in maycomb
They decide to build a
snowman but they need
dirt because there isn't
enough snow Jem then says "ive never
seen a n****r snowman before To kill a Mockingbird Mixed Children A mixed child is
someone who is from a
African American and White
background Scout explains that
no wants anything
to do with them because
they come from both white
and african american backgrounds. Atticus gives Jem and
Scout air rifles for christmas
he says"but remember its
a sin to kill a mockingbird" “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” The story says that
mockingbirds are
really just birds that sing.
This symbolizes that african
american people are just
regular people.
The irony of this is that mocking birds arent really "mocking" and that african american people that are seen as "mocking". Thank You
