Main Idea The main idea is what the whole paragraph or story is about. It is the BIG idea. Main Idea Swim teams can be good for kids. They make friends. The kids get wet and have fun. They exercise their bodies. They learn to swim faster. The teams go to meets. They race the other teams at meets. Some of them will win, and that feels great!

The main idea of this passage is:
A) Swimming is good exercise.
B) Swim teams can be good for kids.
C) It's easy to make friends on a swim team.
D) It feels great to win a swim meet. Main Idea Sometimes the main idea is implied: At first, it seems that the letter Z is not used for much. But Z is quite amazing. It adds zip to some words, like crazy! Where would words like zap and zig and zag be without Z? Zany, zinc, and zilch would not have the same zest, either. Memorize, agonize, or prioritize surely would sound less smooth off of our tongues!

The main idea of this passage is:
A) Z can be used in the middle of words.
B) The letter Z is not used for much.
C) The letter Z is quite amazing.
D) Zilch is a zany word. Where can the main idea be found? In the title: Ryan's Trip Ryan was going to visit his grandparents. They lived in another state. Ryan's parents took him to the airport. He had never gone anywhere without his mom and dad. So he was a little scared. In the first sentence: Campers at Camp High Rock Campers at Camp High Rock are very busy. Each morning they ride horses and go on hikes. Then they learn songs and games.
After lunch they go boating and swimming in the lake. In the middle or the end: The people of Ancient Greece wrote history, poetry, and
literature. They built outdoor theaters and put on plays.
Wise men spent time thinking and talking about truth and
wisdom. People studied math and medicine. The people
of Ancient Greece had many accomplishments. More Main Idea Melody and Jessica lay on the cool grass. It was just before Easter. Spring had arrived. Birds were singing. The flowers were blooming around them, and the grass tickled their bare feet. However, they were paying attention to the sky. They were looking at the clouds and pretending they were pictures.

The main idea of this passage is:
A) Melody and Jessica were cold.
B) Birds are singing.
C) Grass tickled their feet.
D) Melody and Jessica were looking at clouds and pretending they were pictures. Implied means that the main idea is not directly stated. We have to figure it out for ourselves. Try this one: Jose held the ball in his hands. He bounced it slowly on the ground. Once. Twice. He crouched low and then jumped. The ball flew into the air. Up, up, up, it went. Then down, down, down, into the basket. "Yes!" he yelled. "Nothing but net!"

The main idea in this passage is:
A) Jose makes a basket.
B) Jose could jump.
C) Jose liked basketball.
D) How to throw a basketball. Look at this one: Now let's try some together.
