Where Is The Love
The Black Eyed Peas

Their Journey
Started back in 8th grade with William James Adams (Will.i.am) and Allan Pineda Lindo (Apl.de.Ap) met each other and started rapping in Los Angeles. Fresh out of high school and after just a few years of performing they got signed to Ruthless Records and added another member Dante Santiago. The original band name was Atban Clan (Atban stood for A Tribe Beyond A Nation) they recorded their first album Behind The Front in 1998. Stacy Ann Ferguson (Fergie) was then added to the group in 2003.
Where Is The Love?
This song is about 9/11. It was originally written by Ron Fair in 2001. About a year after Will.i.Am added socially-conscious lyrics to the song it was also co-written by Justin Timberlake, who sang on the track. Where Is The Love was the biggest selling single in 2003. The band preformed the song in 2004 at the Grammy Awards and was nominated for Record Of The Year.
Questions & Answers
What is the song about? Consider the theme.
Our Opinion
In my opinion this song is unique. You hear great songs all the time without any meaning though. This song has a great beat and great information. They talk about the disaster of 9/11 and how it took its toll. The black eyed peas realized all the hate in this world and decided to write a song about it. They really make you realize how negative and how much hate there really is. However, they do explain how we made the earth like this but we can also change it back to a more positive atmosphere. We are society and we are in control of our actions. Spreading hate is much easier but what and who does that help? No one. That’s why we need to start spreading more love instead of hate.

Genre & Dynamics
Hip-Hop, R&B
First Verse
They weren’t raised with proper manners.
Affected by the media. All they want to do is get involved with the drama in the world, love to fight.
(KKK: Ku Klux Klan)
When you discriminate someone, it just adds to the problem that cause all that because all the hate in the world.
Open up yourself and see the positive side instead of all the negatives in life. Don’t be so bitter.
What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Blood from The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Now, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'al

: Figures Of Speech & Explanation
There is so much hate that it’s hard to see the love. To many wars, discrimination and racism.
Second Verse
People are looking to a higher power such as god, buddha, etc. Praying to make things better.
People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt can ya hear them cryin'?
Can you practice what you preach?
And would you turn the other cheek?
Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love? (Love)
Where is the love? (The love)
Where is the love? (The love)
Where is the love?
The love, the love
It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane?
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With the ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I can ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin' in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all (come on yeah)
No respect towards anyone. Such as your family and friends.
The war is going on but the reasoning is kept secret. There are also fights/wars that are not worldwide but between one another.
Personification &
We never know the truth because it is not talked about that detailed. It’s ignored and put to the side.
Why do you think the songwriter wrote this song?
The song is about 9/11 and how society has forgotten the value of loving one another and living in harmony.
In the music video, why are they putting up a lot of posters of a question mark?
We think that the reason why is because there are so many questions that haven't been answered truthfully, that there's a lot of hate and lying in the world, and is anyone really true anymore. Meaning can we really trust anyone to not discriminate others.
We think the songwriter wrote this song to make the world realize how society has changed so much, how we forgot the value of others and forgot how to treat eachother.
