1 in 4 adults-approximately 61.5 million americans-experiences mental illness in a given year.
One in 17-about 13.6 million-live with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder.
Approximately 20% of youth ages 13-18 experience severe mental disorders in a given year.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. and the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 15-24 years.
More than 90% of those who die by suicide had one more mental disorders.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
What is it:
A disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions) or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).
What causes it:
Chemical imbalance in the brain
Genetics: If a parent or sibling have OCD there is close to a 25% chance that another of your family will have it
What does it look like:
Repeatedly checking things, perhaps dozens of times
Feeling dirty and contaminated (and obsessively washing)
Constantly arranging and ordering things
Believing that certain numbers represent good and others evil
How is it treated:
Behavior Therapy
Medications-Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI)
Causes:
Chemical Imbalance in Brain
Alcohol or drug abuse
Sleeping Problems
Stressful life events: Job loss, death of a loved one
