Karl Marx Born: May 5, 1818 Died: March 14, 1883 London, England Trier, Germany Attended Bonn University Marx later became an editor for a small, middle class liberal newspaper. His views became more radical & revolutionary which led him to leave Germany & later in time, France. Marx moved to France & Belgium until he later settled in England. Years after Marx died, three volumes of 'Capital' was published by Engels. His theory? During 1848, Marx wrote a book exploiting workers (proletariat) causing a revolution against capitalism. Being the rebel he was, Marx founded & created an international workers' movement in attempt to overthrow the ruling class (bourgeoisie). Human history is governed by economic laws and a person's socio-economic status. He also believed economics determined the course of human history. Marx's theories & economics? Economic interpretation of history: He thought that because there was/is always going to be rich people and poor people, this would dictated their way of life - thus determining his theory of the destruction. This includes the cost of the workers, machines, materials, the workers who worked to get these materials and the 'surplus value', also known as profits which is stolen from these workers.
