Alexandria Victoria was the monarch of Britain from June 20,1837 until her death on may 1,1876. Victoria was given the additional title of Empress of India, during the british control of south asia. Victoria is the daughter of

Prince Edward Duke of Kent & Strathearn
Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld

Victoria was born on May 24,1819 at Kensington Palace,London Victoria's father and grandfather King George III died in 1820, leaving victoria in the care and the hands of her mother that kept victoria under constant supervision. Since she had become so close to the throne and was her father's only legitimate child. Victoria got the throne at the age of 18 since her father's three sons were not legitimate heirs to the throne . At the time of victoria gaining the throne Britain had adopted a constitutional monarchy. This form of goverment limits the monarch to rule within the constitution, and is much like our goverment with parliment serving as their version of congress. Queen Victoria Alfred, Albert Edward,Elizabeth, Albert, Alice, Helena, Victoria The title Emperor/Empress of India was used during a time of British rule in South Asia or India called the British Raj. This system of goverment was initialized when the British East India Company transferred rule to the crown who was Victoria at the time. This period of rule lasted until 1947 when the British East Indian Empire was partitioned into two sovereign states. The Republic of India, & The Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the province of Burma broke off in 1937, and was independent in 1948. Victoria was the monarch of britian longer than any other royal person in history. The age that Victoria ruled in is now commonly called the Victorian Era. This era was a time of great growth in most aspects of the british empire such as military, scientific, and political. This time is also called the Pax Britannica (if it seems fammiliar there was also the Pax Romana in the roman times). Victoria was the last British Monarch from the House of Hanover, Her son, and successor Edward VII belonged to the house of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha like his father Albert. Bibliography:

They had 9 children and 42 grandchildren, 27 of the grandchildren and all of there children married into royalty across the Europe. This earned Victoria the nickname "The grandmother of Europe". Her husband and mother both died in 1861 this caused Victoria to go into a period of mourning allowing republicanism to spread influence, but once this period of grief ended her regin was greatly improved due to public popularity. Prince Edward Augustus, named ofter his uncle, the Duke of York and Albany. He joined the army in 1785 and began training in Germany. On April 24, 1799 he got the title of Duke, and shortly after he was promoted to a General, and also the Commander-in-Chief, North America. This ment that he was the person that planned and regulated all land based activities in and around British territory in North Amreica. Victoria's mother was married to Emich Carl, Prince of Leiningen before her and the duke met. She had a lot of trouble when the king and her husband died since there were 3 older brothers waiting for the throne. Along with the fact that she inherited all of her husband's debts this caused the childhood of Victoria to be hectic. Victoria's Mother

Prince Albert was the husband of Victoria. He married her when he was twenty and happened to be Victoria's first cousin so his title shares similarities to her mothers. Prince Albert was renamed Prince Consort Albert after his marriage. The word consort means that he is married to Victoria but he has no power since he is not the king. Altough he still had contributions to the constitutional monarchy by persuading Victoria to be less restricting with parliment and to let them do what they needed to . Prince Albert Victoria died on Tuesday, Janurary 22 1901 at 6:30 pm, at the age of 81 in the Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. The Osborne House was constructed as a summer home for Victoria and her husband Albert. The person that constructed the house also con structed the north facade of Buckingham Palace for Victoria and Albert. Victoria had spent every Christmas here throughout her widowhood, since that is what her and albert used to do when he was still living. North Facade
