Welcome to Latitude and Longitude
These are lines on a map to help you find coordinates.
Coordinates are two digit numbers that correspond with latitude and longitude to help find a location on a map.
Longitude
Longitude is when you find your second coordinate that is east or west of the prime meridian.
Latitude
Latitude is when you find your first coordinate that is north or south of the equator.

How to find a coordinate
To find a coordinate you have to see if the first number is north or south of the equator, then you have to see if your second number is east or west of the prime meridian. Once you figure that out, then you figure out which numbers your coordinates line up with and write them down.
Ex: The pink dot is south of the equator and east of the prime meridian. The first number it lines up with is 10, so it's 10s. The second number it lines up with is 15, so it's 15e.

How to find a coordinate on a map
To find a coordinate on a map you basically do the same thing as you do with a grid. With a map if the lines curve then it's more accurate, but it's harder to use because you have to curve with the lines. You have to remember to always start above or below the equator to find your first coordinate. For your second coordinate you have to remember to go either east or west of the prime meridian.
Ex: The pink dot is north of the equator and west of the prime meridian. The first number it lines up with is 20, so it's 20n. The second number it lines up with is 10, so it's 10w.
How to find North Vs. South on the equator
To find north on the equator you always look above the equator. To find south on the equator you always look below the equator. The equator is the 0 degree line that is horizontal. The number north or south of the equator is going to be the first number of your coordinate.
Ex: The pink dot is above the equator, so it's north. The first number is at the 30 degree north line, so it's 30n.
How to find East Vs. West on the prime meridian
To find east on the prime meridian you always look right of the prime meridian. To find west on the prime meridian you always have to look left of the prime meridian. The prime meridian is the 0 degree line that is vertical. The number east or west of the prime meridian is going to be your second number of your coordinate.
Ex: The pink dot is left of the prime meridian, so it's west. The second number is at the 30 degree west line, so it's 30w.
