Born in Lourdes,France
Born-7 January 1844
Died-16 April 1879
Country of Origin-Catalonia,Spain
Why I chose this saint ?How will I imitate her virtues?
Ichose this saint because as I child I was taught about this story of a Mother Mary appearing to a little girl. Also her devotion to Mother Mary and the rosary inspired me a lot because I love saying the rosary.Another reason is that it is also one of my wishes to travel to Lourdes,France and see the grotto. The love she gave to the rosary and Mother Mary is the main reason I love this saint.the virtues my saint carried through out her life are
humility,devotion,faith & courage
.
Once a nun asked her if she had temptations of pride.St.Bernadette replied saying,"How can I?"then she answered quickly,"the blessed Mother chose me because I was the most ignorant."
I will imitate her virtues by being humble to the poor. Also I will show devoton to God and have and even greater faith in Christ. And I will show courage to speak up for others that have no voice and help inspire others to come to Christianity through the church.I will not go around showing pride that I have all the necesseties that I need but help the poor people through the 'free the children program' and more...

St. Bernadette
When and How did St. Bernadette die ?
St. Bernadette died of
tuberculosis.
She suffered from asthma as a young child.During her last few days she suffered from constant coughing and choking on blood. She died on 16 April 1879.
Life of St. Bernadette
St.Bernadette was born in Lourdes,France to Francois Soubirous and Louise. She was one of 9 children her mother gave birth to.Eventhough, some of her siblings did not survive. Her family who was in the middle class society soon fell into poverty. As a young child she suffered so much due to poor health conditions. She suffered from cholera epidemic of 1855 and developed severe asthma. She lived a life of peace and harmony with her family through out their hardships. She was also famous for the 18 visions she saw of our sacred Mother Mary appearing to her in Lourdes. She had constant courage to repeat the story of her vision of Mother Mary near the grotto of Massiabelle. She stood courageously in front of the auothorities of the church and the French government. Many people thought that she was trying to be fraud and that she was simple-minded.Bernadette stood strong in her beliefs and went on telling about the vision of Mother Mary, the Immaculate Conception. She didn't like getting all this attention. She went to a hospice school operated by the Sisters of Charity of Nevers. There she learned a great deal and then became a nun at the age of 22 joining the Sisters of Charity of Nevers. She worked in the infirmary and later was a sacristian creating cloths for the altar and vestments for priests. At the same time she also worked to make Lourdes a pligrimage site for the Christians .She was later diseased of tuberculosis of the bone in her right knee and suffered great much.Soon she died due to her illness, on 16 April 1879 at the age of 35.Her body was buried in a chapel dedicatd to Saint Joseph.
The STORY OF lourdes and the courage of St.bernadette.
In the month of February Bernadette and her sister and friends were gathering firewood for the evening. They were gathering near the grotto of Massabielle There she had first of her many encounters with Mother Mary.Mother Mary during her 18 visions told her that she was The 'Immaculate Conception'.It was said that the Mother Mary was dressed in a blue & white cloth. She blessed Bernadette with the rosary and Bernadette immediately started saying the rosary.Soon people heard of Bernadette's visions and the priest asked to proof that this Lady that appears to you is Mother Mary through a miracle. So instructed by Mother Mary Bernadette dug a hole and ate the 'plant'[grass]that grew on it.A spring was suppose to flow but it didn't happen. So people started to call her crazy. But after 4 days a spring started to flow out of it and today afetr 150 years since tit was dug it is a famous pligrimage where about more than 67 cures have happened.

HER BODY THAT WAS BURIED ON MAY 30,1879 HAS NOT GONE CORRUPT.THE CHURCH EXZHUMED THE BODY OF THE SAINT AND IT SAID THAT THE ROSARY AND CROSS SHE WAS HOLDING IN HER FUNERAL COFFIN WENT CORRUPT EXCEPT HER BODY.EVENTHOUGH SOME PARTS OF HER SKIN DISSAPPEARED THE REST OF HER BODY IS AS NEW, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.THEY EXHUMED HER BODY 3 TIMES AND FOUND IT INCORRUPT.ALSO HER LIVER THE FIRST PART OF A BODY THAT DECAYS AFTER DEATH IS AS HEALTHY AS A NORMAL HUMAN BEING.WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE CHURCH THEY RECLOTHED THE BODY AND PUT WAX COVERINGS ON HER FACE AND HANDS TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION ON THE PUBLIC.HER COFFIN IS DISPLAYED TO THE PUBLIC IN A NEW GOLD AND CRYSTAL COFFIN IN THE CHAPEL OF ST.BERNADETTE.THE BODY OF THE SAINT IS INCORRUPT EVEN AFTER ABOUT 130 YEARS OLD...
