Transcript: University of Iowa VS University of Minnesota By May 2, 2011 I have to make one of the biggest decisions of my life. I will be deciding where I will be spending the next four years of my life. My choice is between the University of Iowa and the University of Minnesota. Both are great schools and both have many pro's and con's. These include being close or far from home, out of state or in-state tuition cost and housing. The University of Iowa is closer to home and cheaper for me to attend. Sports teams are a factor also, along with the programs involving my major. The final thing that will influence my decision is the amount of scholarships I am awarded from each school. Hawkeye Cost $20,353 Total Tuition: $7,417 Room & Board: $8,331 Other Expenses: $4,605 Gopher Cost $28,850 Total Tuition:$16,669 Room & Board: $7,576 Other Expenses: $4,605 Hawkeye Housing 10 residence halls Living Learning Communities University apartments Greek life living Gopher Housing 8 residence halls 3 apartment buildings Living Learning Communities Greek life living Hawkeye Sports 10 men's teams 12 women's teams Big 10 School Mascot: Tigerhawk sportsthenandnow.com Gopher Sports 11 men's teams 12 women's teams Big 10 School Mascot: Gopher blog.lib.umn.edu Hawkeye Genetics Program Under the biology major 18 courses within major (Totalling 63-70 semester hours) 4 year graduation plan Gopher Genetics Program Totally separate major 77-82 semester hours within major needed No 4 year graduation plan to follow Hawkeye Scholarships Advantage Iowa Tuition Scholarship Full in-state residence tuition for four years Gopher Scholarship Maroon and Gold Scholarship Half the difference between in-state and out of state tuition Through all of my research and weighing the pro's and con's, I have decided to attend the University of Iowa. The Hawkeyes have better and more housing available, and it is also much cheaper in cost. The genetics program that the University of Iowa has is much more planned out and I feel like I can benefit from it more. The University of Iowa is also closer to home incase I would ever need anything. The University of Minnesota has more sports teams for men and the same amount for women, but the records of the teams prove that the University of Iowa is a better Big 10 school. The thing that finally convinced me to attend the University of Iowa was the scholarship. I would be paying zero dollars in tution compared to still paying about $14,000 in tuition at the University of Minnesota. This is why I will be attending the University of Iowa in the Fall of 2011 and becoming an Iowa Hawkeye. University of Iowa. N.p., n.d. Web. 14 Mar. 2011. <www.uiowa.edu>. University of Minnesota.
