Transcript: Setting The novel is set between 1664 to 1666. The Plague that affected many people in 1665 is explored in the novel. I felt greater pity for the victims in 1665 because of this novel. There is a sense of hostility between Catholics and Protestants in Delft in this time period. This is made clear when Griet's mother says "stay clear of their Catholic prayers. Or if you must be with them when they pray, stop your ears." Griet feels uncomfortable sleeping under a Protestant painting. This shows her strong faith and how she is not willing to accept other religions. The novel is based on a beautiful oil painting, painted by a 17th century artist, called Johannes Vermeer. It has been called a "Dutch Mona Lisa". "Girl with a pearl earring" tells the story behind this painting and the journey it took to create this masterpiece. Despite knowing only a few facts about the artist, the novel was well adapted and very enjoyable. The protagonist in "Girl with a pearl earring" is a called Griet. She is a sixteen year old Protestant. The novel is written in first person narrative. This gives a clear insight into Griet's feelings, especially the changes that happen in her life. Context Girl with a pearl earring http://www.bookreporter.com/reviews/girl-with-a-pearl-earring http://learn.lexiconic.net/characters.htm http://www.bookrags.com/studyguide-girl-with-a-pearl-earring/#gsc.tab=0 Storyline I thought it was a very unique idea to write novel based on how a painting was made. I liked the style of writing. It was written with a lot of detailed description which helped to reflected Griet's careful and observative nature. I would recommend this book to someone who likes reading about different periods in history or someone who likes a romance novel. Why I chose this novel Griet's family become poor after her father loses his sight in a blast furnace accident. This results in Griet trying to pull her family out of poverty. She has the strain of providing the family with income. She must grow up quickly and live in a Catholic household as a maid. The novel explores Griet feeling like an outsider in the household and being pulled away from the people she loves. Griet is treated in a hostile way by the family she works for. Vermeer is the only one to have an interest in Griet. She is given the privilege of entering Vermeer's studio, a privilege not even his wife has because of her clumsiness. Veneer takes Griet on as his studio assistant. Vameer and Griet's relationship develops into a more intimate one. There is a lot of drama created during the novel when Griet models for Vermeer's painting secretly. The events that lead to Griet falling in love with Vameer were very well planned. Griet has conflicting feelings for Vameer and the man she is going to marry. The jealousy created by Griet spending time with Varmeer breaks the household apart.
Transcript: Parallels Characters Lena- She is the main character who believes that the cure will save her. She's incredibly awkward around boys who aren't cured. She doesn't like to break rules or do much besides run. Hana- Lena's best and only friend. She has long straight blonde hair and she's really pretty. Unlike Lena she's really rebelious and friendly. She runs with Lena and is willing to cover for her so Lena can meet up with Alex. Probably the best character in the book. Alex- A boy from the wilds with golden brown hair that looks like the leaves in autumn and amber eyes like an animals that Lena falls in love with. Brian- the boy Lena is arranged to marry after the procedure Regulators- the people who search and kill invalids Lena's mom- Lena's mother who was a sympathizer and had the procedure multiple times before she went missing. Gracie- Lena's cousin who is in first grade and refuses to talk. Aunt Carol- Lena's aunt who fully supports the procedure because being a sociopath is better than having feelings. Lena loves Alex but is required to marry Brian Schraff. Just like Juliet loves Romeo but her parents want her to marry Paris People are willing to die for the love of another person. At one point in the book Alex reads Lena poems written by Shakespeare (Sonnet 18 specifically) Shakespeare is also the author of Romeo and Juliet. The cured and the uncured are kept apart just like the Montagues and the Capulets. Romeo and Juliet's love is restricted and dangerous just like Lena and Alex's relationship. Storyline In the book delirium it has been decided by scientist that all diseases are symptoms of one ultimate disease. That disease is love. Love is thought to be wrong a a very serious crime. In order to protect people from love they have to take a test to decide where they best fit into society then they undergo a procedure that cuts out the part of the brain that is capable of love. After all that they are given a list of like 3 or 4 people that they are allowed to marry. Through out the book you find people that are against the procedure and the restrictions on love. These people are called Invalids. The main character, Lena, falls in love with an invalid and that is when the action begins. Delirium By: Lauren Oliver

However we get set up by Tryone, the guy hird us, and get trapped in an outpost and have to fight for our lives to get out. The way Jordan and others came up with the genre was that I wanted action and he wanted comedy, so we just combined it. Max originally thought of having an action movie as its fun to film and could have great editing during the filming. Transcript: Pulp Fiction Narrative Genre Storyline Representation Every single character is represented by a certain characteristic. The males are seen as dominant in the film. Marsellus and Vincent are seen to ‘look after’ the female (Mia) this stereotypes that women still rely on the male. Butch also dominates the relationship with his girlfriend, she doesn’t get a say in what they do, where they go etc. Butch represents Honour Butch is presented to be scruffy, tough and a stereotypical ‘fighter’. The watch that was passed down from generation to generation serves as the primary device of Butch’s views concerning honour. Perhaps even the starting point for them. As a result, he will risk death in order to make sure he has the watch, which represents his honour Marsellus represents authority Marsellus is a gang leader and has wealth so the character is dressed in expensive garments and has gold teeth this shows that he is worth something. Whenever Marsellus Wallace is in a scene he is basically in it as an authority figure, as the boss. As a result of this theme being associated with him, he rarely actually does anything himself but rather orders others to Mia Wallace represents Mystery Mia is presented to be independent, desirable and mysterious. However, she is deemed to be owned by Marsellus and because of his authoritative figure other characters view her as out of reach. Mia Wallace is associated with the concept of mystery and the unknown. As a consequence of representing mystery, all her scenes involve some sense of intrigue or the unknown. Jules represents religion and spirituality Jules is presented to be a witty, religious and psychotic well-dressed hit man. Whenever Jules is in a scene he argues for an intuitive perspective on situations, a perspective based on an innate feeling towards a matter rather than a logical analysis. Jules’ intuitive perspective is actually a religious perspective, as he ‘feels’ god in situations. Vincent Vega represents logic Vincent is presented as logic, stupid and psychotic hit man. He has long hair which is UN conventional as it contrasts the usual suit-wearing hit man outfit. He also a Heroin user which also looked down upon. He always argues and questions Jules’ view on religion. The story is a non-linear story as it jumps back and forth to the different story's that are happening at the same time and are all connected. The story also has a circular structure to it. Meaning it ended how it begun and it begun how it ended with the American couple robbing the diner and trying to get the brief case off the Gangsters. The film uses anchorage to change between the stories. An example of this anchorage is when the scene changes from Bruce Willis' scene to 'The Bonnie Situation'. Tarantino does this by presenting the words on screen. The genre of this film is black comedy crime drama thriller. We know this because throughout the film there is references to each of these genres. An example is, for black comedy, there is a scene in an elevator talking about foot massages which is meant to be humorous but is a serious subject as someone was thrown off a building for giving a mans wife a foot massage. Although Pulp Fiction uses many of the standard conventions used in making a crime or dark comedy film, it most definitely does not utilize many of those within a film noir. The most obvious break from traditional film noir that Pulp Fiction makes is by being shot in color and bright lights. The color and lighting schemes are shockingly bright, vibrant, and contrasting of a film noir. Pulp Fiction starts in a diner with an American couple who are planning to rob the restaurant. Then in Pulp Fiction there is 3 story involving 3 different people. The first one is of two gangsters who get hired by there boss to kill people for him. Then the boss goes away for a couple of days and Vincent Vega is responsible for looking after his wife. But she takes drugs and it gets all out of hand. Then the second story is of a professional boxer (Bruce Willis) where the same boss pays him to lose the fight in round three but he doesn't and just takes the money and is then on the run from him. But then his girlfriend leaves his grand fathers watch at their apartment, so he has to return to get it but of course the boss has Vincent Vega (John Travolta) waiting for him to return. Then the last story loops back around to the diner of the two gangsters having dinner in the same diner that the American couple is about to rob. And the entire story is evolved around this brief case.

For the Tsunami: A.C.T. is a theatre company that uses old classics, like Charles Dickens, and puts them in modern day situations. Working with only seven performers/backstage workers, we try to be as minimalist with our set as possible, leaving lots to the imagination. We try to inspire young people to act, read and to generally work in the 'arts'. Our aim is to bring these 'old' classics back to life by giving them a modern day twist and educating our audience on the classic story and the situation we've placed it in (such as a tsunami). Conscious Hair + Make-up Lighting + Sound Indie Chick: "*****" Eccentric and Confident Peaceful Thalia Emotional Rajeev and Lili Araminta is an eccentric and overly-enthusiastic middle-aged woman, wearing quite bright and weird clothes, as well as make-up.
