Transcript: Free Read PowerPoint Project Judith Rumelt, better known by her pen name Cassandra Clare, is an American author of young adult fiction. Main Characters Summary Prominent literary item Will Herondale-Will has dark hair and ocean blue eyes. Will is rude and cruel because he believes everyone that loves him will die. He believes this because a demon put a 'curse' on him. Tessa Gray- Tessa has blonde hair and grey eyes. She is very witty and enjoys literature. Recommendation of book Setting Jem Carstairs-Jem has silver hair and eyes, due to the drug he was tortured with before his family was killed. He plays the violin and is very kind, caring, and lovable. The most unique thing in Clockwork Angel is that there are supernatural occurrences such as demons, shape shifters, witches, vampires, and werewolves, etc. I definitely recommend Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. I recommend this book because it uses great figurative language, such as "The machine walked like a man." Also, "There was a boy standing in front of her. He couldn´t have been much older than she was-seventeen or possibly eighteen. He was dressed in what looked like workman´s clothes-a frayed black jacket, trousers, and tough-looking boots. He wore no waistcoat, and thick leather straps crisscrossed his waist and chest. Attached to the straps were weapons-daggers and folding knives and things that looked like blades of ice. In His left hand-slim and long fingered-was bleeding where she had gashed the back of it with her pitcher. But that wasn´t what made her stare. He had the most beautiful face she had ever seen. Tangled black hair and eyes like blue glass. Elegant cheekbones, and long, thick lashes. He looked like every fictional hero she´d ever conjured up in her head. Tessa Gray goes to London to live with her brother. When she arrives Tessa is captured by twin sisters dubbed 'the Dark Sisters'. She was tortured and forced to use her gift of shape shifting for evil until Will Herondale rescues her. He then takes her to the institute, a place for shadowhunters to be cared for. Tessa meets the residents of the institute, Charlotte Branwell, the head of the institute, Henry Branwell, Charlotte's husband and inventor of a many great inventions, Jessamine Lovelace, girly and against all things shadowhunter, Jem Carstairs, a kind but very ill shadowhunter. Presentation Themes Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare Most unique thing in the book Presentation by Canaan Hall Clockwork Angel takes place in the institute, and the Dark Sister's home. The institute is an old church with very many rooms for passing visitors. The Dark Sister's house is large but sparsly furnished, in Tessa's room there is a bed with restraints, a mirror, and a nightstand with a few books. The themes for Clockwork angel are; you always need friends that you can trust, don't judge someone by their looks you don't know what they are going through, and even someone you wouldn't expect could be the hero. Cassandra Clare One prominent literary item in the book is personification. Personification is used throughout Clockwork Angel, such as "The machine walked like a man." Another example is, "The door creaked with a noise that sounded like a scream."

Transcript: First Woman and GOD in relation to tourists GOD is portrayed as possessive First Woman says there is enough room for everyone GOD wants everything for himself First Woman says, "There's plenty of stuff here. We can share it." GOD responds by saying, "this is my world and this is my garden." GOD represents the colonies Sundance Tourist This character exemplifies the expectation of Native culture to be readily available for white consumption. The tradition of no photography at Sun Dance was contested in favour of the tourist having the photos of the ceremony and his family, even though Orville offers to develop the photos for him. "I thought it was a powwow or something," (139). Eli and Karen: When Two Paths Cross "He wanted to be a white man" (King 36). "Whites are superior, and Indians are inferior" (King 393). "People who looked at him suspiciously, as though he were a stranger, a tourist who had somehow sneaked into the camp" (King 261). "What had Eli become? Who had he wanted to be?" (King 285). "The Indian who couldn't go home" (King 286). "When I was young, I couldn't wait to get off the reserve" (King 299). "It had been hard leaving" (King 287). "He didn't go back, knowing if he did, he would stay" (King 287). "Eli shook his head and watched the lights of the city...'I am home,' he said" (King 344). "Karen liked the idea that Eli was Indian" (King 163). - Andrea Lefebvre American VS. Canadian tourists "May we assume that your Indian?"... "I'm Blackfoot" said Latisha "Damn fine tribe" said Nelson, leaving his hand on Latisha's arm and trying to reach her hip with his thumb." (pg. 131) Latisha took four menus with her. "Good evening." "Yes it is" said the woman. "And your name is?" "Latisha" "That's a lovely name," said the other woman, whose name tag said "S. Moodie." (pg. 156) Leticia's conformity & Internalized Depression Leticia tends to conform to the tourists’ expectation of what authentic native culture truly encompasses. It seems as though she has no choice but to fill a self-imposed stereotype. In turn, she naturally adopts an identity which appeases her own culture. A little closer to home... Idle No More Tourists Question: Why did Eli marry Karen, the tourist? A look at today's Us VS. Them mentality
Transcript: "I call them 'tourists'." "In another wing, next door to the colony of elderly and enfeebled, is a cluster of morbidly obese patients whose substantial dimensions the doctors hope to whittle down." Lined up like a row of onions, this human throng waves arms and legs under minimal supervision. This chapter analyze the relationships between main hero and patients. One of the most important things here is a narrator voice, that allow us to feel his thoughts much deeper (first voice). TOURISTS QUESTIONS: "Ravens of doom who have made our nest in a dead-end corridor." "A man in a fluorescent nightgown, who is learning to walk after an accident with a subway train which amputate his legs." Patients like young man, grandmother and the homeless man are like 'tourists' to me, come and go, while Jean-Do could not 'escape' from his 'diving bell'. Jean-Do made a very interesting metaphor here, comparing patients arms and legs movements with waving and lining up as an onions rows. 1. How was the react of those 'tourists' when they saw Jean-Do? Explain why. 2. What are 'tourists' mean to Jean-Do? "I direct my one eye towards them, the young man, the grandmother and the homeless man turn away, ..." Jean-do, was very different from other 'tourists' and even these people could not look at his eye, in case that they didn`t want to give him any hope!
