Florida is east of the Mississippi River. It has an exceedingly flat terrain. Many people say that Florida is a peninsula shaped like a gun on the map of the United States. Florida is familiar for its fascinating beaches and tourist attractions.
Florida owns 3 regions: North, Central, and South
The North region: is distinctly "southern". This region is related to states like Alabama and Georgia of the Deep South.
The Central region: is a tourist destination and home to developing towns and cities like Orlando and Tampa.
The South region: is a hispanic haven. Miami and coastal resorts to the north dominate the south region.
Absolute Location: 28 degrees N, 81 degrees W
Relative Location: Southern region of the United States
5 Themes of Geography
Florida has to deal with rapidly growing population.
Continuous movement is common in and out of the state of Florida because of tourism. Migration is also common because of retired people. In Miami, FL., they've seen a huge inflow of Cuban refugees and immigrants from other Caribbean nations.
