4th grade follows the LISD/Hebron Valley absences policy. Excused absences include those caused by illness or a death in the family. Any other absences, including those incurred during family vacations, will be unexcused unless approved by the office prior to the absence. Students will NOT receive work in advance of an absence. Students will be allowed one day to complete make up work for each excused day of absence upon return. Anytime there is an unexcused absence and grades are taken on that day, each graded item will result in a zero (0). Makeup work will not be provided for unexcused absences. Please refer to the Hebron Valley Handbook for more information.
Assignment Planners/HVE Folders
In order to promote organization and responsibility, students will record homework assignments in an assignment planner each day. The assignment planner is required for all 4th grade students and can be purchased for $5 from the teacher. Parents should view this assignment book each night to stay informed. On Mondays students will bring home graded papers and important notes in their HVE folder. Please remember to check the folder for pertinent dates, responsibility sheet, and important news.
It is our expectation that students will be responsible for assignments and have them in their possession at the start of the school day. A student’s work is late if it is not turned in to the teacher by the
beginning of that specific class
on the day it is due. Students will not be allowed to call home for missing assignments. Reductions in grades will occur for late assignments. The reduction amount will be 10 points per day (including the day the work is assigned) for 3 days with a zero given after the 3rd day. Assignments brought to the office by parents will be delivered to the teacher’s mailbox for pickup after school, and will be considered late.
If a student receives a grade below a 70% on a major grade or test, the student will be re-taught the material and given a chance to retest. The student will receive the better of the two grades. The maximum score a student can receive on a retest is a 70%.
Students will be permitted to bring a water bottle and a
(for example: no chips, cookies, hot cheetos, candy) to be eaten in the morning. Please only send snacks that are not a disruption to the students and/or classroom. Please note that we are an allergy aware classroom. NO peanuts or tree nuts.

First Student Bus Services
Forms of Communication
To ensure all Kindergarten and First Grade students riding our Regular Education buses arrive safely at home each afternoon, it is required that no Kindergarten or First Grade student be released from the bus without a parent or older sibling present. The older sibling must be at least 4th grade. If no parent, designated adult, or sibling is at the stop, the driver will contact Dispatch with the student’s name and school. The school will be contacted. The driver will return the student to the school and hand deliver the student to an administrator or office personnel. The school will contact the parents to advise them their child can be picked up at the school. Please note that 2nd – 5th grade students are allowed off the bus even if a parent is not present unless the parent has a
on file with First Student indicating a different procedure.
Funds and school business day allocation will be used to train a small number of teachers to come back to train the campus. These will be prioritized based on improving a campus goal.
HVE community (parents, teachers, students, businesses) involvement will increase by 8% as evidenced by a pre and post survey by the end of the 2016-17 school year.
Hebron Valley 2nd-5th grade students will increase process standard .1b in Math by 10% as evidenced through an average of questions testing this TEKS on CBA, benchmark and STAAR data by the end of the 2016-17 school year.
(B) use a problem-solving model that incorporates analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, determining a solution, justifying the solution, and evaluating the problem-solving process and the reasonableness of the solution.
HVE students will increase in their perception of affirmation as evidenced by increasing .20 on the question regarding affirmation on the Gallup poll by the end of the 2016-2017 school year.
